Feingold Asks, Robert Punts

During the confirmation hearings, Sen. Russ Feingold asked Judge Roberts if he thought the Second Amendment was an individual right.

Roberts said that it had been decided as such by, I believe, the 5th Circuit but not by others. He said he couldn't comment because it might wind up before the Supreme Court. Fair enough...

What a dangerous situation it is in letting the courts decide what rights we have.

His answer wasn't very reassuring. Seems like he could go either way.

It was the right answer to give in a confirmation hearing.

Varying from the pattern of

Grand Inquisitor: "Mr. X, what do you think abouy Y?"
Candidate: "The law says Z about Y"

is dangerous as hell.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
