September 11, 2005Sunday ReadingsLife goes on in New Orleans. Not a blogger, but Chris Rose is a reporter hunkered down there who writes like one. Interesting. James at Hell in a Handbasket on whether he's come to terms with 9/11. Over at Confederate Yankee, it's The Kayne West Show. Countertop is thinking of taking his lawyering skills elsewhere. My advice: We need lawyers in Vermont, too! Probably doesn't pay as much as elsewhere but for a gun nut, it's the place to be. Eric Scheie has more on rebuilding New Orleans. Some human spirits never throw in the towel. That's how America came to be in the first place. Tom Bowler at Libertarian Leanings eviscerates a WaPo piece on bipartisanship following 9/11 and Katrina. The public editor of the New York Times finds past coverage by the newspaper rather lacking concerning poverty and dependence on the levee system in New Orleans. On a much lighter note and because I'm into this stuff, Weird Events has a piece on spiritualist Daniel Dunglas Home. Just in case you wonder why I'm always mentioning Coast-to-Coast AM... Comments
Jeff thanks! The story of self reliance by New Orleans residents is an important one, and it isn't being reported as it should be. Posted by: Eric Scheie at September 11, 2005 08:50 AMIf I could convince my wife to move to Vermont, I would have been there yesterday. Unfortunately, she lived there with me once and found the prospects for decent employment - not to mention the weather - less than desirable. Of course, she doesn't work now so . . . . . . Posted by: countertop at September 12, 2005 12:13 AMThanks Jeff. I've wanted to make mention of that incredibly "gotcha" speech by Kerry for a long time, and this turned out to be a good time for it. Thanks for the link. Posted by: Tom Bowler at September 12, 2005 12:04 PMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
