BFG-50, A First Look

I'm due at a wedding this afternoon or I'd already be gearing up for the range. Hopefully tomorrow. But I thought I'd share some initial reactions with you.

You know, just something to do a little plinking with, get rid of the squirrels... Seriously, and the Serbu BFG-50 Carbine is definitely a serious gun, this affordable rifle is much more compact then it's competition. It's about 3 1/2 feet long, 19 pounds with the scope, and while I'm not sure I'd want to tote it any great distances, is certainly managable. Mark Serbu included the IOR Valdada 4-14 X 50 illuminated tactical scope. He said it wasn't his favorite, just what he had around at the time. For my purposes it will do just fine!

Incidentally, when I say that "even my cats have guns", you'd better pay attention. Here's Crispy muzzle-to-muzzle with the brake:

The shark fins actually angle at about 45 degrees. Combined with the ample padding on the buttplate, recoil won't be too bad...

The bolt locking mechanism with the extractor at the end of it. It appears (not shown) that the firing pin is fully recessed which would prevent (mercifully) any chance of a "slam-fire".

I'm thinking that one day after work this coming week a bunch of us will be heading to the range to blow stuff up. My local gun store, the Shooter's Shop, has ordered more ammo for me. There will be cameras capable of short videos and I might take Countertop up on his offer to host those, since I already exceed my bandwidth at Hosting Matters every month. Of course, he's busy angling for his own.

By the way, I also put a deposit down on the Taurus. My thanks to you folks for that. They're on back-order, or actually not yet released but are due to be shortly. And I only have four payments left on the Alphecca Limo. That will free-up $355 bucks a month. Life is good around here!

I'd rather have a BFG-9000, and unlimited power packs.

Hey Jeff, bring that bad baby to the boomershoot!

Or at least order a case of tannerite so you can really blow something up :)

tannerite.com has all of your chewy goodness!

And I must say, Jeff, really! Going to a wedding instead of shooting this bad boy? I'm shocked ;)

get rid of the squirrels.

Aye, that it would do.

Jeff - just be aware that the muzzle blast from that brake can be felt about 15-20 feet back at the angle of the brake, so watch the back-blast. (I found this out when I was watching the wife shoot mine and made the mistake of moving a little to far to the side.) Otherwise it's a blast(literally) to shoot.

I especially like the 10-round belt of .50cal ammo. Nice touch to scare the GFW's...

Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
