August 12, 2005Russia to Loosen Gun Laws? You know it's a slow news day when I have to travel half-way around the world to find a gun control post... Getting a permit to own a rifle in Russia is an arduous task. With skyrocketing crime, some are pushing to make it easier. From RIA Novosti:
Read the whole thing. Interesting! We've certainly seen that enacting draconian gun control hasn't worked in England or Australia. Apparently, gun rights advocates in Russia are finding the American model to be the answer. Well, most of the American model. Washington DC and Chicago are the exceptions and -- shockingly -- their streets are war zones. Posted by Jeff Soyer at August 12, 2005 07:28 AM Comments
But the russians will surpluse to anyone, all day long Posted by: SayUncle at August 12, 2005 11:30 AMGeez, I wish Massachusetts had as lenient a set of gun laws as Russia currently has. That's nowhere near as arduous a process as it is to get a permit for a handgun in Boston. Posted by: Bruce at August 12, 2005 11:54 AMI am confused about the "smoothbore... rifle." European American Armory used to import a semi automatic detachable magazine fed shotgun called Saiga, and it was based on the Kalashnikov. Posted by: Steve Skubinna at August 12, 2005 08:43 PMVery Nice piece. I think it's kinda sad that the Russians are getting the message when there are still so many in America that do not. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
