Yeah, I Like Harry Potter...

No, I didn't stand on line at midnight like some fool but I did head to Borders after work tonight and I did buy Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince because I own all the others and I LIKE THEM. Regular readers know I read a lot of SF and Fantasy and Horror and Mystery. I don't care if J.K. Rowling's series is considered "juvenile", I like it, too. I have next weekend off and will dig-in then. It's a world I wouldn't mind living in... Go on, how many of you big-burly gun nuts will admit that you enjoy the books too?

Admittedly I have spent no money on the series and have only seen one of the movies, but my impression is that Potter is "juvenile" only because the protagonists are - rather like Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn.

Good for you! My grandmother has read most of the Harry Potter books, my grandfather is listening to recordings of them, my mother is about to start reading the Half Blood Prince now that my little sister (in high school) and I (in college) have finished them.

And all I can say about the book: shocking!!!

I get the books from the local library, but I've read and enjoyed every one. They're juveniles in the same sense that Robert Heinlein's juveniles were - good writing aimed at teenagers, but worth reading by anyone.

Deb had been going to order it from Amazon, along with Green Mars and Blue mars in paperback (by Kim Stanley Robinson). We went into Wal-Mart in Halifax on the way home from swimming in Carver, and they had a pallet of them out for $15 and change, which is amazing, so we bought it there. She put Pratchett aside and started reading that instead.

Meanwhile, I am finally reading Island In The Sea Of Time, which sucked me right in. Before I can read the latest Potter, I have to read the one before it! They are great books, but I never got around to reading the last one.

On the news the other night we saw the scenes of people (mainly kids) waiting to get into the midnight store opening events for Potter, and decided our kids will never get taken to those.

What I am waiting for, bad as the last couple were, is Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan, coming out in October. He and Wheel of Time are just too good for the excitement and action not to pick back up in what is probably a book or two from the end of the series.

Harry Potter is awesome...

And I would read the book as soon as possible. This one you DEFINITELY don't want to be ruined by spoilers.

I'm not big-burly, but I'm certainly a gun nut, and I really like the Harry Potter books, too. :)

Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
