Woman "Stun-Guns" Husband

From the department of "Here's How It's Done" comes a story today from the Ledger-Enquirer (OH):

A Columbus woman used a jolt from a stun gun Thursday to stop her estranged husband after he threatened her at her 54th Street home, police said.

Arbrey Vernon, 36, was charged with simple battery, cruelty to children and criminal trespass. He was freed on bond.

Police said Jamie Vernon, 28, shot her estranged husband with the stun gun shortly after he entered the house and started pushing and threatening the woman. Several items had been broken at the home.

Jamie Vernon used the stun gun to protect herself, police said. Columbus police arrived at 12:34 p.m. to arrest the man.

The Vernons live at different addresses and have filed for divorce, police said.

Just one more reason that women should be arming themselves, especially if trapped in an abusive relationship. Unfortunately, she used a stun-gun rather than something a bit more deadly. I say "unfortunately" because her abusive spouse is already back on the street and restraining order or not, will (in my opinion based on other cases) probably come after her again. A .38 special would have made that possibility moot.

those "restraining orders" don't amount to much, as you note unless backed up by force. i don't know if you remember or heard of the murder, some years ago, of a woman down here in brattleboro who left her boyfriend, a local radio personality, to take up a relationship with a woman. he stalked them and finally killed her with a knife in front of her new lover at a local gas station. while i might disagree with her lifestyle she certainly had a right to live and "pursue happiness" in whatever form she saw it. i cannot help but wonder what the outcome would have been if those women had had even an old police surplus .38 special in their car and the presence of mind to use it. (and for you flatlanders, they legally could have. we don't do "pistol permits" in vermont. just mind your own business and keep the peace and no one cares what you're carrying.

by the way, about arming women, i heartily agree! shortly after moving to vermont, almost 40 years ago, i bought my wife a pistol and taught her to shoot. when our daughter was old enough i taught her too, and helped her get a 9mm colt govt. model. now my grand daughter is almost 10 and she too is learning to shoot grandma's old .22 llama, and as soon as i can afford it she'll be getting a brand new SIGsauer .22 "mosquito" pistol to go to the range with.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
