July 02, 2005Every Rifle an "Assault Rifle"?I've noticed a trend lately in the media. Whenever a rifle is used in a crime, it is now referred to as an "assault rifle" even when the police or reporter have no clue as to what kind, caliber, or make the rifle was. A perfect example is the opening to this story:
"Hail of gunfire?" "Assault Rifle?" Apparently, since reporters generally know next-to-nothing about guns, every rifle must be an "assault rifle". We can argue, of course, that when misused, any object is an "assault object" but in the liberal public's mind, hearing these phrases over and over only reinforces their notion that the end of the "assault rifle" ban is somehow impacting their lives. Have the cops even had time to run ballistics on the bullets? All two bullets, judging by the report of the story? I'm not trying to minimize the crime committed against these three guys. I just wish reporters would be a little more careful about the phrases they bandy-about when writing their stories, especially with scant actual information at hand. Comments
I hear what your saying. You might want to check out this link I borrowed from Countertop back in March that he found on Assaultweb. http://haloscan.com/tb/bgcg/111170950061883545 Posted by: BULLSEYE at July 2, 2005 03:15 PMSorry, my mistake with the bogus link. Try this one instead. http://americandrumslinger.blogspot.com/2005/03/homeland-defense-rifles-courtesy-of.html Posted by: BULLSEYE at July 2, 2005 03:25 PMTell me about it. A few days ago I read an article in the local paper about a criminal armed with a "9mm assault rifle" that about made my eyes roll into the next county. And this is in Oklahoma, where even the democrats are pro-gun. Just depressing. Posted by: Mister V at July 2, 2005 08:02 PMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
