June 30, 2005The Silliness Over .50 CalLeon Archer is a columnist with the Valley News, an upstate New York weekly. His fine column is titled, "The Sportsman's World" and he had a smart rebuttle to the anti-.50 caliber legislators in last week's issue:
There's much more so please read the whole thing. He also tackles the proposed NY State law that would essentially ban all rifles that have magazines holding more than five cartridges. And remember, folks, we need to let local newspapers such as The Valley News know that we appreciate writers and columnists such as Leon Archer. Comments
It would be funny enough watching one of those idiots lugging one someplace, and then trying to hold it to his shoulder while trying to figure out how far to lead a 747 at 10000 feet (never mind which way the wind is blowing), and hold the gun steady. Posted by: BobG at June 30, 2005 05:38 PMI've never seen, or even seen a picture of, a .50 cal (50 BMG) rifle being shot other than from a rest. I remember once trying to hold one in an offhand shooting position, and my back hurt for a week - I'm sure that if I'd shot it I'd still be crippled. So, if you're dumb enough to try to take down a moving aircraft with a single shot, you'll at least need some sort of swivel mount for your bolt action rifle (what an image.) This is all the legislature has to outlaw - swivel mounts for 50 cal rifles. (We .50 cal flintlock and Sharps buffalo rifle owners will have to lobby for an exception for our swivel mounts, of course, but surely the legislators will understand and be sensitive to our needs.) Posted by: Kip at July 1, 2005 10:14 AMSpeaking of Mr Browning's creation, here's a chance to do some good and maybe even win yourself a new toy. Fifty Cal Inst. I bought me a chance. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
