New England BloggerShoot

Jay at Toys In The Attic is organizing a NorthEast BloggerShoot for sometime this Summer. Sounds like a great idea to me so I'll plan on attending if I can swing it with my job (I have alternating weekends off). The plan is to have it in Massachusetts which, um, I guess will rule-out anyone bringing handguns. Still, I have some plinking rifles and will look forward to it. I'll need to learn what's necessary for me to "transport" rifles into the state. Head over there if you are also interested.

And along those lines, I hope Dale Chan and Deb will be having another NE Blogger Bash as they did last year.

Thanks for the plug, Jeff! I figured if I left enough hints maybe you'd catch one... :)

"The plan is to have it in Massachusetts which, um, I guess will rule-out anyone bringing handguns."

1. We could also have the shooting part in Manchester at The Firing Line range.

2. I am planning on bringing some of my handguns regardless of where we meet to shoot...

Just checked it out and will go if I have a date..I work weekends so I would need to get the days off. Also, where is this gonna be?

Umm, having in MA pretty much means ruling out any kind of guns for non-residents. While technically there are provisions in MA law for non-resident to bring firearms into the state to shoot, good luck convincing cops that you qualify before your trial.

In order to possess ammunition, pepper spray, low cap rifles & shotguns, you need an FID card. Non-residents can't get FID cards. In order to possess any of the above as a non-resident, plus high cap rifles & shotguns and/or low cap handguns, you need a LTC Class B. To include high cap handguns, you need a LTC Class A.

Without those permits, I would suggest that anyone who attends not bring guns with them. either rent (if you go somewhere that will do it) or borrow from someone else who brings guns.

I never made it up The Firing Line, but I know a lot of groups who go there. I've heard it's nice.

If anyone does venture to bring guns into MA without the license, I would suggest keeping Jesse Cohen's number on them...

So, no hunters can bring guns into Mass? I'm checking...are there NO shooting matches that non-staters can bring their firearms and shoot at? There is a smallbore match at Reading, Outdoor pistol at Bedford (vlowe@draper.com). Highpower Rifle at Reading and Westfield. You mean to tell me I can't take Old Betsy the AR and go win the Mass State Highpower Championship? Where's the ACLU?

Deb and I have been talking about another New England Blogger Bash. We have more room than before though we won't be right on the water like last year.

We'll keep you up to date....

Yes, you can come in for hunting and matches. The hunting expemption is the most clearly stated of them all, so probably the lowest risk. The others, well, it's up to the cop's knowledge of the law. I heard about a cop up there that threatened and tried to arrest an 80-year-old woman who HAD a valid FID card because he found ammunition in her car. She was covered and clear, but it didn't matter to him because he was a) on a power trip and, to add to the mix, b) uneducated on state gun laws. My advice to anyone taking guns into the state, even for a lawful purpose is to keep the number of an attorney or pro-gun friend who could help you out on hand.

Would RI be an easier location? Haven't checked the transport laws here lately, but I don't think they are as bad as MA. Unfortunately, I've not been shooting in RI for far too long, so have rather lost track of which ranges are which.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
