May 23, 2005Illinois Gun Bill Doomed? Here's some whining from the Chicago Sun-Times:
If the state police are allowed to keep all purchase records, that amounts to a "gun registry". That allows for easy confiscation if future bans are enacted. That must be avoided at all costs. We've seen what happened in England, Austrailia, Germany, and now Canada. As for the gun show "loophole", it depends on how they are defining gun shows. Other states have tried to call any three friends getting together in someone's living room or at a range a "gun show". If that is the case here, then I'm glad there's a chance the whole mess will be vetoed. It will be the 12th of Never before the Sun-Times is satisfied with the level of gun control in Illinois. If a policeman is hunting a suspect, wouldn't he want to assume the suspect is armed until he knows otherwise? I don't understand why you'd want to rely on a computer database to tell you who might have a gun and who might not. Posted by: Matt at May 23, 2005 12:35 PMEspecially since most criminals don't make legal purchases anyway, something that would generate any paperwork in the first place. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
