Back to South Africa...

From Reuters:

South Africa's gun amnesty has been hailed a success, as more than 25,000 illegal firearms have been handed over to police well before the cut-off date on 30 June.

Police Director Phuthi Setati said on Tuesday that the response to the amnesty, which was launched on 1 January and extended in March, "has been very good".

In an upbeat mood he told IRIN, "If we collect only one illegal firearm that's a victory for the police as well as the nation, because that particular firearm will never be in circulation again."

He said, "The aim of the amnesty is to rid the country of illegal firearms that are believed to be in circulation. We think we're winning."

Wow! That's just so wonderful. Law abiding citizens turning in their unregistered guns. Now, only the criminals have them. What a fabulous success! I imagine crime will Just Plummet now, eh? No word yet on the other 2 million "illegal guns" still out there...

"Now, only the criminals have them."

Why do you leave the fact that the State, a criminal enterprise in some estimations, will also be armed?

Isn't that the point of the Second Amendment? To keep us free of tyrants?

SA police and civilians are able, by law, to shoot to kill when property is at stake. Nevermind being in fear of death, if someone is stealing your car, he can be shot. Crime there is a big, big, problem. Rape Insurance is sold in South Africa. Beatiful contry, gorgeous women, and residents very hospitable, but damned dangerous. New law allows only four guns per resident, and no two allowed in the same caliber. The country is quickly going down the toilet. Thank God we have America.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
