March 06, 2005Oh Daley, Shut-Up!Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley just won't give up. From WBBM News Radio:
Haircuts aren't a guaranteed right. Bearing arms is. Furthermore, if there are unlicensed gun owners around it's because you and the city of Chicago refuse to issue any licenses or permits for handguns. Do you really think that eliminating gun shows in Illinois will prevent criminals from obtaining handguns? Most never see a gun show. They steal or buy on the black market. All you will do is make it that much harder for the law-abiding to own guns but then you've already done that by banning them from your crime-ridden city, right? Fool. Comments
Excellent points. As to haircuts, I would think they'd be covered under the 9th Amendment. (That would be the right to pay for a haircut in the free market. There is certainly no right to get a haircut or anything else from the government unless one is serving in the military. Military men have excellent haircuts.) A man looks better with a haircut. Your haircut is excellent. I'm going to need a haircut soon. Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson at March 6, 2005 04:28 PMNow you know why I'm trying to move away from the Daley-mania that inhabits Chicago and some of its nearby suburbs. Posted by: Jason Hinds at March 7, 2005 11:52 AMGun shows have disappeared from the St. Louis MO area so I have to go to shows across the river in Collinsville and Belleville, Illinois. At those shows, per long-standing Illinois law, you have to show ID before you can even TOUCH a gun on display - IL residents must present a state-issued Firearm Owner's ID card (FOID), and others must show a dirver's license. Bad things apparently happen to exhibitors who allow non-ID'd people to handle their firearms. In my experience, ALL required paperwork is scrupulously completed whenever a weapon is purchased (as a non-IL resident I have to arrange to take delivery through a MO dealer.) If this isn't registration of gun owners in IL I have to wonder what the good mayor is looking for. And if the mayor is saying that I can really go to a suburban CHI gun show and buy all the guns I want without the ID and paperwork nonsense I see at my local shows, I'm going to have to consider some weekend road trips. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
