NH Gun News

Chan Eddy at Weekend Pundit reports on another attempt at permitless CC in the Granite State. Good news if it goes through this time although I don't know about the new Governor there... Naturally, living on the border, I'd like to see my brethren and sistren enjoy the same right we have in Vermont. Chan has the background and history on the move.

In other news, a bill in the NH legislature would require name tags (so to speak) on all hunter's tree stands and blinds located on private property. From the Union Leader:

Currently, permission from landowners to place tree stands is not needed unless the stand will damage the tree, said Maj. Tim Acerno, assistant chief of law enforcement for the Fish and Game Department.

At a public hearing yesterday Acerno said landowners don’t generally object to tree stands being in the trees, but want to be able to contact their owners in case of tree harvesting. It is also important to have the letters large enough so that a landowner doesn’t have to climb the stand to read them, Acerno said.

“Hunters in general must recognize the important balance between themselves and private landowners who are willing to share their land, and if they fail to do so, we’ll see an increase in ‘No Hunting’ and ‘No Trespassing’ signs,”said Rob Thomson, owner of the Thomson Family Tree Farm in Orford. He believes it’s the responsibility of hunters to seek permission from property owners before placing a tree stand on another person’s land.

Opposing the bill was Lawrence Guaraldi of Caanan. Guaraldi said the bill would over-regulate and punish the sincere hunter for the acts of a few. Guaraldi told the committee that landowners are supported by hunters and the tax breaks they get from putting their property in current use.

I don't hunt so I have absolutely no opinion about this although I don't see anything intrinsically wrong with it...

New Hampshire has no trespass laws? I can't imagine going on someone else's property for any reason without asking permission.

That was my first question too...are people putting up stands on other folks property without telling them?

If someone wants to hunt my land, I'm going to make sure he tells me where he puts any stands if he wants to hunt there, if only for my own safety. I don't want to accidentally wander too close while he may be up there.

Jeff, dang it, you are breaking my heart! "Nothin wrong with it"? Another basically useless law with a govt penalty for non-compliance....and the folks who are putting up illegal stands will....what: Ignore it!
In Texas, though statistically, (and numerically) single digits of youngsters were EVER injured while hunting, (as opposed to tennis camp or football, which injures thousands of kids), the state decided that young hunters needed to go through a "hunter education course." Of course, the number of young hunters plummetted, since the course is expensive and hard to find. (now its on the web, so if your family has a computer you are ok..)
Useless school, useless law. Lots of consequences.
When I get a hunting liscense, I have to volunteer my drivers licsense number, (which I have to carry while hunting), and my social security number, they run a computerized check on me and if I have an outstanding parking ticket, owe child support, ever was a felon or had a charge (not conviction) of spousal abuse, I'm done.
They raised the price when the number of hunters fell, which lowered the take, so they raised the price some more..
Not to mention that the state owns all the animals it designates as "game", though those animals live their complete lives on private property.
Label our stands? Wear orange? Love to. Just hunt with shotguns? Your wish is my command. Only shoot deer with antlers that measure at least 13 inches inside spread? No problem. Yes sir, no sir, here's some more money sir. Anything ELSE I can do for you, officer?
Anyone remember the bandit and poacher, Robin Hood? Did they ever hang him? They sure needed to. Our heroes today are the Sherriff of Nottingham and his men.
Every day, we get the choice between slavery and rebellion, and so far, everyone pretty OK with slavery.

Okay, Robert, consider me chastened.

Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
