Shawnee Gun & Knife Show

That's this weekend and here's another type of story you'll NEVER see in the New York Times... From the News-Star (OK):

There's an old joke that an armed society is a polite society.

But the atmosphere at the Shawnee Gun and Knife Show is genuinely friendly, said Greg Hollis, head of the event. Entire families are much more common at today's shows, whether their interest is in hunting, target shooting or as collectors. And the Shawnee event is sure to have the gun or knife that meets their needs.

"A person would be amazed at the variety of guns and knives we have," Hollis said. "It's like having a lot of gun and knife shops under one roof."

The Shawnee Gun and Knife Show will be held at the Expo Center Saturday and Sunday. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $6, but dollar-off coupons can be found in local convenience stores and in advertisements.

The article goes on in like style and points out how much fun it is and the wide variety of items, new and collectible to be found. There's even a photo of a dealer holding up an AK-47 with no disparaging commentary alongside it. Anyway, for those of you in the area, this sounds like a nice weekend outing (oh, heck, gun shows are always fun although "wallet-draining" events).

And kudos to the News-Star for covering it.

Just went to the Tanner Gun Show in Denver this past weekend. You are so right about wallet draining. I bought a Surefire G2, a new holster that fits both my H&K and Baby Eagle and works at as both belt or shoulder, some $5 knock-off Oakleys, and a CRKT M-16 knife. Then I found a Romanian AK 47 in very good condition for $300 but didn't have enough left over to get it. D'OH! Maybe next time.

Oklahoma is OK! I love my home state. It's amazing that after growing up in such a gun friendly culture that no one ever introduced me to them. Only in a gun control state did I learn to appreciate them.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
