October 21, 2004CommentsI've mentioned the problems I have with the comment-spam spiders for everything from online gambling to porn to medications. Even with MT Blacklist I have to spend ten minutes each morning "de-spamming". Mercifully, I don't suffer from trolls. The few people with differing opinions that visit here post good comments and I welcome them. I guess a LOT of bloggers are having problems. Dean Esmay went to a comment registration script a while back. Serenity just turned her's off and JT at Beagle Express is threatening to. The spam stuff really is frustrating and I wish there were a way to post something on the site that says that if they post a commercial comment advertising something, they automatically agree that they have entered a binding contract with Alphecca to pay a $10,000 advertising fee for each individual post... Hey Jeff, Francis Porretto has one of them "word in an image" recognition things you have to do to post a comment. Maybe there's a MT plugin for that? (I dunno, I use pMachine.) Uh, can't imagine you're not aware of Porretto, but he's at http://eternityroad.info/ Posted by: jed at October 25, 2004 12:33 AMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
