September 27, 2004Carter, The ExpertEx-President Jimmy Carter, the foreign policy expert who as president was unable to secure the release of US hostages being held by Iran and oversaw a disasterous rescue mission, who was attacked by a giant rabbit and whose administration saw inflation rates of 17%, is now an election expert. From the always neutral BBC (that's sarcasm, folks):
I assume he applies the "basic international requirements" of Libya, Egypt, Iraq under Hussein, Albania, etc.
My Ghod! We can't have a Republican has Secretary of State of ANY state; they must all be Democrats so we know there won't be any "dirty tricks". Democrats never try to intimidate voters or, oh, say in Chicago, have dead people vote or drive around in vans bribing homeless people with booze and cigarettes and offering them rides to the polling stations to vote Democratic. And to top it off, they are allowing a legitimate third-party candidate, Ralph Nader, onto the ballot! Doesn't Glenda Hood know that our form of democracy here in the US only allows two people to appear on the ballot? So what if Nader had the signatures and the support and a (small) percentage of the vote four years ago. She should have "banned" him from the state because Carter says so and he knows all about honest elections in Venezuela.
So Carter, like most Democrats, would like convicted felons to vote in our elections, even when they are in jail! And isn't it interesting that he realizes that most criminals WOULD vote for Democrats. Why is it that mutant killers, drug users, rapists, armed robbers all would prefer Democrats in office? Just asking! I think that speaks volumes about the corruption of the Democratic Party. But then, look at their role models such as the (in my opinion) dishonest liars who run such organizations as moveon.org or the incredibly biased news reporters such as Dan Rather who will gladly broadcast (totally unbiased, of course) allegations against the sitting president based on obviously forged documents supplied to them by Democratic Party operatives. And by Golly, Gov. Jeb Bush hasn't taken steps to encourage criminals to vote for their favored candidate, John Kerry. I try not to curse around here too much but folks, I really wish that Carter would just go fuck himself and disappear. Him and the Clintons and the Kennedys too. And don't you just love that Ted "Lifesaver" Kennedy is stumping for Kerry? Boy, if I was some moderate swing-voter sitting on the fence, a speech by Kennedy is all I'd need to hop onto the Kerry bandwagon. From the AP:
So is Ted "every man and woman for himself" Kennedy saying that Iraq and the other terrorists DO have nuclear technology and the bomb? And he thinks we shouldn't be persuing and trying to prevent these terrorists and rogue states from using that technology? That, like Kerry, he thinks we in the US should just sit back and wait for the terrorists to attack us again, this time with a nuclear bomb? I wonder who Mary Jo Kopechne is planning to vote for? Oh, I just remembered: She's dead. Comments
Frankly, I'm surprised Carter could say anything coherent, considering the swordfight Kim and Castro are having in his mouth. "Jimmy Carter?! He's history's greatest monster!" Posted by: Noah D at September 27, 2004 04:43 PMOkay, that might have been a bit over the edge. Ah, well. I said it. It's mine, I tell you, mine! Posted by: Noah D at September 27, 2004 04:49 PMI'm too angry at Carter to leave a coherent comment - Jeff, I'm glad you blog. Posted by: Persnickety at September 27, 2004 05:57 PMEvery time I see the name Jimmy Carter, my blood boils with rage. He was the worst President in my lifetime, and I was born under Eisenhower. And he is even worse, and seems to get worse and worse each day, as an ex-President. Sanctimonious, U.N.-worshipping, One World, pacifist, anti-American, pro-Communist, etc., always running down his country, always taking the side of his country's enemies. I'll put it bluntly: in my opinion, Jimmy Carter is a traitor to his country. Why, I even prefer Kerry over Carter! The man I admire is Gerald Ford. Too bad we didn't get four more years of Ford in 1976 instead of Carter. I wish I had voted for Ford that year, I voted Libertarian instead. Ford was very good as a President. He was constantly vetoing spending bills, something Bush has yet to do, and something Kerry will never do (unless it's spending for our defense, then he will veto it). Today, he is in the Republican Unity Coalition, standing up for the rights of homosexuals within the Republican party. Good man! And, he has _style_! Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson at September 27, 2004 07:44 PMThe first President I remember is Reagan, so I can't comment on Carter. But these ballot access fights bug me, so I wanted to point this out -- notice that Nader "stole" votes from Bush in 2000, not just Gore. From the Nader website: "If one accepts the flawed logic that suggests Ralph 'cost' Gore two states (New Hampshire and Florida), then it would also follow that Buchanan 'cost' Bush four states (Oregon, Iowa, Wisconsin, and New Mexico) in 2000." http://www.votenader.com/why_ralph/index.php?cid=3 I can't figure out who's dumber: Republicans for helping to add Nader to the ballot to "steal" Democrat votes (it's not altruistic, folks), or Democrats crying foul (but when are they not crying about something). Posted by: Brian St. Pierre at September 28, 2004 09:21 AMActually Brian St Pierre, Buchanan took votes away from Gore in Florida if you remember the Andre Fladell lawsuit. Sorry Jeff. I thought you were an intelligent person, until I saw the Ann Coulter link. Anyone who can praise Senator Joseph McCarthy as a great American obviously doesn't have a clue. The people whose lives he destroyed would have had better lives living in Russia at the time. Enjoy your second class citizenship you are about to get from Bush. Posted by: Doug at September 28, 2004 02:51 PMI admire Senator Joseph McCarthy. We need more like him. He exposed Communists like Owen Lattimore, who betrayed China to the Communists. Better off in Soviet Russia? Lenin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Ho Chi Minh, Castro, etc., enslaved and murdered hundreds of millions of human beings. Senator McCarthy never murdered nor imprisoned anybody. Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson at September 28, 2004 04:47 PMDoug, actually I rather like Coulter although I realize she is way over the top. I appreciate sarcastic humor when it's sharply honed; same reason I like Johah and Steyn. Keep in mind that I link to some sites I might not agree with (such as TAPPED) just to provide some balance. Posted by: Jeff Soyer at September 28, 2004 05:23 PMHey Doug, McCarthy was right about quite a few of the communists that were involved in the American govt and in Hollywood (no, I don't believe in the blacklisting). You may want to read Slander by Miss Coulter. Yes, she has a big mouth, but I have not heard any factual arguments against the material in both of her books (the 2 I've read). I also wouldn't put losing your job in the category of "living hell". A Soviet Gulag where you starve and freeze to death is more like a living hell, Doug. Posted by: Jimmy Antley at September 29, 2004 09:10 AMoops, I had it in my head, that Doug used the phrase "living hell". Sorry, you didn't say that. Something about "wishing they were dead", though. My comment still stands. Posted by: Jimmy Antley at September 29, 2004 09:13 AMJimmy, I've not read any of her books and will not. Sorry, she is the queen of the half truth. She can pull just enough of a quote to make a case, but when taken in full context the quote has a different meaning. She is a lawyer, that tells you a lot right there. When she is presented with reasonable arguement against something she's said, she retorts to verablly asaulting the person. I did read the responses on amazon.com to her book Treason. They present a lot of facts that dispute what she has written. Look at the 1 star reviews for the info. And BTW, not everyone was in a gulag in Russia, and not being able to keep a job means you cannot afford a place to stay or food to eat so someone would either be force to admit to a false lie or freeze or starve to death. Posted by: Doug at September 29, 2004 09:52 AMDoug, I do agree with you on the point about lawyers. 95% of them can't be trusted. I've only met a few who were decent human beings - these were corporate types or real estate lawyers. OK, don't go by the 1-star reviews on amazon.com. Those folks have not read the book either. It's kind of closed-minded of you to talk about Ann's politics when you refuse to read her books and trust the 1-start reviews. How bout the 5-star reviews? Anything there you can use, Doug? That's right, not everyone in Russian went to the Gulag. You can toe the party line, be a sheep, and you'd have been alright. Stand in line for 2 hours for your crusty bread and bowl of borst, and shut the hell up. Oh, and hail Stalin and Castro and Ceacescuea (how in the f__k do you spell that one??) To compare losing one's job in Hollywood to the Gulag is ludicrous!! I don't believe many of the blacklisted folks did any starving. I doubt they even missed a single expresso or California roll (like sushi). I also think it's pretty hard to freeze to death in So. Cal, unless you make a point to go into the San Gabriels buck nekked and stay the night outside. Ann Coulter, you got nuthin on me. I want you, though, still the same ... mmmmm... those legggs.... Jimmy, Actually I did read 5 star reviews as well. But the 1 star reviews I was talking about did read the book, they had to in order to be able to dispute the things she wrote in the book. And I've read her columns and other items on her site and I've also read stuff from other people that have had encounters with her. So yes I can comment on her. She is the queen of the half truth. She is very smug and very self righteous. And if she looked like Janet Reno, no one would be paying a bit of attention to her. Yes some of the folks on the list were well off, but not everyone that McCarthy went after was a rich person. That's why many people caved in. Jeff I apologize for my prior comment to you. I'm still trying to figure out why any gay/lesbian could be for Bush. He will take away rights from them, and not just the right to marry. The religious right(wrong) views gays as evil and Falwell's been shooting off his mouth about how no Repub is getting elected without their help. The RR views gays as evil. Do you think they will allow those they view as evil to have basic rights, like the right to vote or OWN GUNS? 2 to 4 Supreme Court justices may be appointed in the next 4 years. A Supreme Court that would be Falwells dream scares the hell out of me. He's started a law school. They are dying for a crack at the Supreme Court. 4 more years of W is one thing, a lifetime of religious wrong legislation is another. Vote Kerry, then Guliani in 2008. Posted by: Doug at September 29, 2004 12:36 PMYou are so full of shit, Doug. Christians do not believe gays are evil. They believe that homosexual acts are sin. You worry about Ann Coulter's "half-truths" when you might be that truthful twice a day, like a clock. Cut the BS, and do some reading, dude. BTW, it's not just Janet Reno's looks that turn people off. It might have to do with her Nazi mentality and actions. (I'm not saying Ashcroft is that much better - especially about this drug war BullShit, but at least he can read the 2nd Amendment, if he can't read the 9th and 10th). Posted by: Jimmy Antley at September 29, 2004 03:15 PMOh, and also, at least John Ashcroft is better looking than Mrs(?) Reno, and I say that as a straight man. (I mean heter-straight, not straight as in the non-funny part of a two-man comedy team ;-} Posted by: Jimmy Antley at September 29, 2004 03:18 PMJimmy, Sorry to burst your bubble, but Falwell has called gays evil, as well as some other religious right leaders. And I wasn't saying I liked Janet Reno, she is just the ugliest woman I know so I used her in the example. I'm glad your happy with Ann. But have you done the research to find out if what she is writing is accurate or are you just taking her word for it? There are lots who have tried to follow her footnotes and found them to be wrong. Posted by: Doug at September 29, 2004 03:36 PM
Doug, much of the material is the 1st (?) book, Treason, was about recent history that I could recollect. No, I didn't check out every footnote, but with that book, the basic premise in each chapter was backed up just by my experience and memory of recent political happenings. I'm taking Ann's word for it (and some of the 5-star reviewers ;-} about Slander. You make a blanket statement about the "religious right". That is generally known to mean conservative Christians, in particular the non-denominational church-goers who are pretty tired of the left-wing crap that many Methodists, etc are into. Jerry Falwell is not Mr. Group Leader of the whole Religious Right, OK? Similarly, Jesse Jackson might think he represents all Black People, See-BS news might think he does too, but he doesn't. Ask and Christian and he will tell you that he does not thing gays are evil. Actually, ask Alphecca Jeff ( who has been strangely silent, BTW) what he thinks. Jeff, it's your web site, man ... Posted by: Jimmy Antley at September 29, 2004 04:05 PMDang it - Sentence 1: WAS "is", S/B "in" Jimmy, First off, Bush is a Methodist, and is being backed by Falwell etc. And no Falwell doesn't run all of the religious right, but he is spouting off how he controls it. He recently stated that he heads the largest constiuency in the repub party and that no repub is getting elected unless they are pro-life, pro-family etc. Baiscally they have to believe what Falwell believes. How true is that, I don't know. But Falwells group has been busy getting a lot of people registerd to vote. I agree fully with you that gays are not evil. I've never said that. I've said there are those who do believe it. The US is very homophobic. You can tell by how many state amendments or laws stating marriage is to be between one man and one woman are on the ballot this year. A tactic being used by the repubs to distract the people from W's record. I too am interested on what Jeff thinks about the religious right. And what Bush will do to his rights. Posted by: Doug at September 29, 2004 07:17 PMLet me start by saying that I don't have a lot of respect for most of the organized religions. And one reason for that is that most of them remain silent while the more extreme elements of them seem to control the "dialog". To me, the radical Christian "right" is whacky, but they really aren't controlling the national agenda any longer. Bush throws them a bone with his marriage amendment proposal because (I think) he realizes it will never happen, just as he threw the gun control crowd a bone by saying he would support an extension of the AWB if -- IF it crossed his desk. I actually don't think Bush cares one way or another about gays, judging by the fact that he's appointed them to various positions (which drew outrage from the RR). Naturally, it's still bad that he does throw that bone to the right but let's face it, Kerry has also stated he's against gay marriage and while he's not for a constitutional amendment, is his position really all that different from Bush's? Gays have not lost any rights under Bush so far. And the way the Second Amendment is interpreted these days, no gays are losing the right to own a firearm. In any event, four more years of Bush will not, I think, be much different than the first. Gays will not be shoved into gas chambers. So what do I look for in a candidate? First, he must be pro-2A, and Bush is far better (not perfect) than Kerry, who has voted for every single gun control bill that ever crossed his path. Second, I want the war on terrorism fought without submitting our plans to France and Germany and the UN. Again, Bush wins this one. I am not happy (read my archives) about Iraq but at least Bush did something, not just sit around and wait for another attack on our soil. I have never felt like a second class citizen during the past four years. If Bush doesn't embrace my lifestyle, well, a lot of politicians don't, including Kerry. I've said here before that I wish we had other choices. I actually was hoping for Joe Leiberman, but we're stuck with Bush and Kerry. I can't vote for Kerry... Posted by: Jeff Soyer at September 29, 2004 10:14 PMJeff, why don't you vote for Michael Badnarik, the libertarian candidate, then? Sounds like you would be in complete agreement with his views. Don't give me the "wasted vote" story. Vermont(?) will not go to Kerry by your 1 vote, and you can make a bigger difference this way. Posted by: Jimmy Antley at September 29, 2004 11:07 PMJeff, Thanks for your response. I saw a good statement the other day about the AWB, outside of convicted felons, has anyone lost the right to bear arms in the last 10 years? Here's a funny thought, I cannot bring a pair of nail clippers on a flight, but I can buy an AK-47. That's national security? I'm not against someones right to bear arms. However I am very afraid of someone who cannot live without having an AK-47. And Bush says he would have signed the AWB again if it was put before him. BTW, Timothy McVeigh didn't need a plane to blow up a building. Kerry is against same-sex marriage, but he's not against civil unions and he's not against benefits for same-sex partners. Bush is. Bush wants to put that in the Constitution. The Log Cabin Repubs are not backing Bush. Dole returned their campaign donation in 96 and they still backed him. And don't be fooled because he appointed some gays to positions. It doesn't mean he's not against them. About the war in Iraq. It's wrong. Plain and simple we went in for oil. This past weekend I went to a wedding in NH. One gentleman at my table, his daughter is in Iraq. Do you know that the army is not using it's own cooks but a food service instead? I forgot the name of the food service company, but here's a big shock, they are a subsidairy of, that's right you guessed it, Haliburton. He said his daughter wanted a second plate to cover her wonderful food to take back to her barracks. She was told she cannot have a second plate, they cost $28. There's something phony about 9/11, some of the supposed highjackers are still alive. How can that be? Do the reasearch, don't just take my word for it. Sorry but the muslims aren't are enemy. If they are, then why are they allowed to roam freely in America? We rounded up the Japs after Pearl Harbor. Bush is not tough. He reminds me of a kid in my Junior High. He had a big mouth and acted really tough. He could because he was friends with the biggest guy in the school. Guess what happened when the big guy moved away. Bush has been able to let everyone else do the fighting for him. Nam, Iraq, the RNC, where he let everyone else bash Kerry and was just able to walk up and give a speech about the issues. If I was Kerry during his speech at the DNC, I would have brought a mountain bike with training wheels on it and said "Here you go George" And I promise you, do not dismiss Falwell. He has been building a following for 25 years. He's got numbers and he wants to re-write the constitution. He has his own law school now. Think about the lawyers that would come out of there. They are using the Catholics now to get Bush in, but then they will turn on them in a heartbeat. Bush has made a quagmire of the war in Iraq, making it so we cannot get out of there. We went in without the UN so we can get more of the Iraqi oil for ourselves. The UN would have distributed the oil differently. Jimmy, you speak of Ann's book Treason. Is it treason if Reagan did contact the Iranians and got them to hold the hostages until after the election? It looks like we may be heading east into Iran now. How many of the guns Ollie North helped Iran get will our fighters be facing? And Jeff Jacoby is right the Jews should be backing Bush. I mean Bush has Americans fighting the Jews biggest enemies. We are selling Isreal bunker busting bombs while putting sanctions on anyone who has any dealings with Iran. Here's the economic facts. $420 billion deficit. Not one new job created in 4 years, even with adding a new Homeland Security dept and all those airport and shipyard security. Medicare going up. Social Security on the ropes. Millions more without healthcare. I'm making less money now that 2 years ago, even tho the bank I work for is making money hand over fist. We're looking at a $5 trillion dollar debt if we get another 4 years. I was for Bush in 2000. I don't trust him. He's in his second term so he doesn't have anything he has to worry about. Plus the fact that we are probably looking at 8 years of Hillary right after Bush. I wish for other options too. But I see Bush for what he really is. I'm voting for Kerry because I fully believe our country will be better off 4 years from now with him in office than if we let Bush in again.
