Thank You!

I want to tell you folks how grateful I am, after intimating that I was in a bad financial situation last Saturday, and putting up my "tip jar" for the first time in half-a-year, that your response has been fantastic.

I want to tell you how my rent is due on my domains and to my web hosting company and I had no money to pay it.

I want to say thank you to all of you who responded...

...

...

That's what I had hoped to say when I returned home from visiting my parents. As I write this, I've received a total of nothing from nobody. I don't mind pointing this out even though it's humiliating and is probably the most demoralizing thing that has ever happened to me since I started Alphecca almost two years ago.

I don't have the money to pay Hosting Matters by the renewal date of this Friday. By next week this domain could belong to a porno site. Maybe you folks think that would be a better thing. I'm starting to think so, too.

I'll continue posting until the end of the week at which point HM will probably turn the sites off.

Update 10:00 PM: Wow! Some kind mentions by other really swell bloggers and suddenly I have gotten some much needed donations. Now I feel bad about my "snarky" post here. Folks have donated over $105 dollars so far and I must thank you very much! I've got my work cut out tomorrow sending out thank you emails. That will be the most pleasant task I've ever had.

Never again will I doubt the generosity of the blogosphere! And thanks very much to all of you kind folks and especially to Glenn Reynolds and Jay Solo for their mentions of my plight.

They're pretty good about that, actually.

What plan do you have? Is it the $112.20 for a year plan?

Posted by: Jay Solo at August 30, 2004 07:31 PM

I need to send them a check for $117 by Friday.

Posted by: Jeff Soyer at August 30, 2004 08:01 PM

See e-mail...

And thanks for the opportunity to poke fun at Andrew.

Jeff,

I tipped your jar, and will do so again when your bandwidth issues pop up.

You are an essential voice for gunowners and (whether you know it or not) objectivist types like me. I salute you, and I know others will as well.

(Just noticed that Glenn Reynolds has noted your request. Help is on the way, as John F'n Kerry would say).

Regards, Gonzo.

I'd be happy to provide you with hosting on my server (mu.nu). Just give me a yell at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net.

Jeff,

Just did what I could. Good luck!

You probably want to make the Tip Jar visible! It took me a good 5 minutes to find it... light green on such a background doesn't work!

Anyway, never visited your site before but your Kerry interview made me laugh.. a few bucks on its way...

I sent ya money, which would have been a helluva loteasier if you hadn't disguised your paypal link with bullets and used a recognizable symbol- like say, perhaps, THE PAYPAL FRIGGING LOGO.

At any rate, I hope my small amount helps.

Money sent.

Posted by: Darmon Thornton at August 30, 2004 10:16 PM

Was on vacation and didn't catch your request till now. Sent what I could, hope it helps out.

To all of you, and to the many others who were all so kind to hit the tip-jar, thank you so much. You've all really come through during a sudden crisis of mine and I am truly humbled and grateful. I had thought I was past such branches across the path but living on the edge and a sudden emergency with the Alphecca Limo turned my finances on it's head.
You folks are the best!

Thank you!

Posted by: Jeff Soyer at August 30, 2004 11:26 PM

Hey Jeff,

I hit the tip jar. I wish I could give more to compensate for how much I enjoy your site! Hope the financial situation improves.

If you'd be interested in investigating a cheaper hosting company, I can recommend something at the $50/year level.

Send me an email if you want more information.

I've been out of work for over a year, sorry I can't help.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
