Another Reason To Arm Yourself

Well, it was all over the TV channels this morning. A woman home alone thinks someone is breaking into her home:

On July 29, at around 2:40 a.m., Patricia Berg found herself startled awake -- she thought someone was breaking into her home. But as she described the emergency, the 911 operator fell asleep to the point of snoring.

Look, anyone working a midnight shift could accidentally fall asleep so I'm not coming down on the operator here. The point is that 911 is NOT the perfect and only solution to protecting yourself. Anything can happen. A storm blows down the phone-lines. The operator gets the house number wrong. Anything. And then, let's face it, the police can take 15-20 minutes to respond. That's if they aren't already busy... You could be killed by an intruder by then.

Owning a gun is like a fire-extinguisher; you hope you never need it but it's nice to have if you do.

That has got to be the most pathetic excuse I've ever heard.

You are 100% correct. Officers responding to a call will probably arrive in just enough time to pick up the pieces. I would much rather it be the pieces of the bad guy than me or my family.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
