AWB, New Hampshire

The Portland (N.H.) Herold has a roundup of how New Hampshire's various representatives (or their challengers) would vote on the "assault weapons ban" renewal. Not surprisingly, Democrats support it (all while quickly pointing out that they support the Second Amendment) and most Republicans (Gregg being the exception) are against it.

But I have to quote this gem by a Gregg challenger:

Doris Haddock, a 94-year-old activist who walked across the country to support campaign finance reform, hopes to win Gregg’s Senate seat.

"We do need to protect our work places and school yards from sociopathic killers, and a reasonable plan to do so should include keeping out of easy reach any weapons that spray bullets like water from fire hoses," she wrote in an e-mail. "If sociopaths are going to shoot at us, let them at least have to take aim."

Longer term, Haddock called for reducing the level of fear in the country to discourage ownership of high-powered weapons.

"That fear is good for business, of course, and good for the gun business," she wrote. "Bringing a gentle peace to our people is a great challenge that we must begin in earnest at the highest levels of political and cultural life."

"Spray bullets like water from a firehose..." She apparently has no idea how these supposed "assault weapons" even operate. And after she takes law-abiding citizens' guns away, I'm sure the criminals will bring that "gentle peace" to her people...

The only weapon I can think of that meets the criterion of "spraying bullets like water from a firehose" are the various models of electric powered gatling guns.

Man, it'd be fun to have my own mini-gun.

It's the Portsmouth Herald. Portland is in Maine. Portsmouth (the seacoast region in general) is the most liberal part of the state. The Herald is about on par with the Boston Globe or the NYT...

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
