June 28, 2004Again, A Restraining Order FailsIt's the same terrible story with different characters: Despite a restraining order, a mutant ex-husband goes on a murderous rampage against his ex-wife and children. From the Tennessean:
I hope they find this bastard quickly. I hope they DON'T take him alive. I hope that any women living in similar situations will take advantage of the Second Amendment to protect themselves because the police simply can't. Posted by Jeff Soyer at June 28, 2004 12:34 PM Comments
The Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership once put out a book, "Dial 911 and DIE". There's a joke that you could call for the police and then call for a phone-order pizza and see which arrives first. A bullet is faster and safer for you than either. Posted by: Steven Malcolm Anderson at June 28, 2004 01:26 PMI recently told someone that the best argument against gun control is to go and find a recent example of where a restraining order failed and someone was killed. Sadly, it's always possible to find such an example. And when there is evidence of a 911 call as well, that only underscores the need for some people to defend themselves. (You know how some people have signs in their windows about "This house protected by such-and-so burglar alarm"? I think it'd be much better to have a sign that says "Support the Second Amendment" with a line drawing of a pistol. I think that'd get the point across much better.) Posted by: B. Durbin at June 28, 2004 03:09 PMThe converse of having a 2A sign in the window also works as an argument against gun control. My sister, as ardent a liberal gun-controller as can be found (even walked in the Thousand Mom March), is unwilling to put a sign announcing her home's "gun-free" status in the window. "Why invite trouble?" she asked me when I suggested it. "Because it comes by, invited or not," was my reply. "Why not be ready when it does?" Posted by: NewShooter at June 29, 2004 12:50 PMParker Ray Elliott was captured Monday evening. http://tennessean.com/local/archives/04/06/53434695.shtml?Element_ID=53434695 Sorry for the long link. "Elliott will face two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder, District Attorney General Mike Bottoms said. Thanks, Seahay. the comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
