Don't Holster That Gun!

Normally, for safe carry you want to put your pistol in your holster. If you have a Glock and a Fobus, read this USA Today story:

A Pennsylvania company is recalling about 3,200 gun holsters because the strap can catch the trigger and cause the weapon to fire accidentally. Eight incidents of accidental firing have been reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.

The Fobus USA Holster Division of First Samco, of Southampton, Pa., is recalling its Fobus GLT holsters, designed for Series 17 and Series 19 Glock handguns fitted with a laser-sight light. There have been eight reports of guns discharging as they were inserted into the holster. One person injured a finger.

Those who are critical of the Glock because of it having the unconventional trigger safety instead of all the traditional ones would love to have a field day with this. Thing is that most people handle their firearms with enough respect that this really was not a problem. Only 0.0025% of these holsters were involved in an accidental discharge, and only one resulted in an injury, not life threatening. And the evil, unsafe, unregulated industry is dealing with the problem.

Point taken, Triticale. But I still want the Colt 1911.

I'll stick with revolvers. We've had about 166 years to figure out how they work, get the bugs out, and optimize our drills for them. Besides, Glocks are gross and ugly, and I would characterize their trigger feel as not creepy, but SLIMY! Yes, I have shot one, in the same session with several other self-loaders.

It's not the safety that bothers me about Glocks; they just don't feel good in my hand.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
