"That Will Be $12 And Your Fingerprints..."

Not content with just licensing your firearms, California now wants you to register your ammo. At least, that's what a new bill that passed the senate and is now in the assembly would require. From CNS News:

Senate Bill 1152 passed the California Senate last week by a vote of 22-16 and now has been sent to the Assembly.

The bill requires that "all vendors of ammunition maintain specified information" on ammunition buyers, including: (1) the date of the transaction; (2) the name, address, and date of birth of the buyer; (3) the buyer's driver's license or other identification number and the state in which it was issued; (4) the brand, type, and amount of ammunition bought or transferred; (5) the buyer's signature; (6) the name of the salesperson who processed the transaction; and (7) "the vendor shall also at the time of purchase or transfer obtain the right thumbprint of the purchaser or transferee."

The information would have to be recorded on a special form provided by the State Department of Justice.

Folks, this is just one more insidious plan to discourage law abiding citizens from exercising their rights. It's REGISTRATION. Clear and simple. It's a new database that could lead to confiscation. The next step is to ban certain types of ammo (they probably already do) or use those ammo records to determine who owns what types of guns. By cross-referencing purchases, they will know exactly what you own. And come after those guns.

Next, buyers will probably have to keep records of how they used that ammo (range, hunting, etc.) Actually, you and I know the next step is Ballistic Fingerprinting. If there were any other -- non-gun -- product, a legal product, involved, liberal groups would be screaming "invasion of privacy!"

Furthermore, who's going to pay for this new gun (or should I say ammo) grabbing scheme? The purchaser, of course. So this also amounts to a tax on ammo.

Once again, California leads the way in trashing the Second Amendment. Why would anyone live there? [You mean besides for the beautiful scenery, miles of beaches, warm weather?--ed. Oh, I guess there is that... --js]

I spent a week in LA once for work, and I can honestly say I finally found a reson why someone MAY want to live there.
The weather was fabulous.
But, not even concerning their politics, I refuse to live somewhere that natural Disasters are a fact of life. Sure here in Texas we get Tornadoes, but I have never personally been through one. I doubt a 29 year old Cali resident could say that about earthquakes.

Then if you look at the laws and politics, we need to kick Cali out of the USA....

I don't know, it seems like a great business opportunity to me. Open up a bulk ammo store just across the line in Nevada.

I'm against it! Reminds me of Communist Rumania when they had to register their typewriters with the government. That's the next step. If the Second Amendment goes, the First Amendment and all the others go with it.

Mike, as a native and now ex-Californian, I can say one thing with confidence: you don't live in California. You don't appreciate just how damn big the place is. Since most population centers hug the coast, for the vast majority it's many, many hours of driving to find a state line to cross, and much of that through deserts or over mountains. Serious deserts (the Mojave) and serious mountains (the Sierra Nevadas). For some it would be worth it, if they could go now and then and bring back ammo in bulk. But I'll bet the dadgummed CA gummint would come up with a law against that too, if they haven't already.

As a gay gunnie in West Hollywood (there are four of us, I think), I'm very fed up with how the Democrats are trashing our right to bear arms. My partner and I are working towards moving to Florida in the next couple of years, solely because of the insane legislation.

If you want to feel like a second-class citizen, just go a gun show in Phoenix and tell any of the vendors that you're from California. There you'll see all the weapons available to most everyone else, but not to Californians. (If I were a vendor, I'm not sure I'd respond differently.)

I took a Utah CCW class on Saturday. The instructor also teaches the California CCW class to the very, very few who can get the permits. The local climate is so bad that his current CCW permit will probably not be renewed. And he teaches the class!

I'm working towards making a difference, introducing other gay/lesbian folks to guns through the Pink Pistols (http://la.pinkpistols.com), but it certainly feels like we're swimming upstream.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
