Caribbean Floods

There are several natural disasters that can strike us almost anywhere at anytime. Tornados, blizzards, volcanos. Floods are truly scary. I've been through one during a 'Noreaster about 20 years ago. The flood waters simply "appeared." One moment it was dry land, and the next, there was several feet of water, it was about 36 degrees, and the power went out for 48 hours. You think the water almost looks placid but there are terribly strong currents. I was lucky, the water only came up to three feet where I was at the top of the street, and I lived on the second floor. But I can tell you it was a terrifying time. Most folks who live in hurricane areas will probably tell you that the real damage (and deaths) doesn't come from the wind; it comes from the flooding.

I feel very badly for the folks in the Dominican Republic and Haiti (the same island actually.) These people had nothing to begin with and now (like "divide by zero") they have even less. The death total so far is over 660 lives and will no doubt be higher than that. Even if you aren't a believer, please spend two minutes tonight to say a prayer for these folks. If there's nothing to it, you haven't lost anything but a couple minutes, and if there is something to it... I can't find anything about this disaster yet on the Red Cross web site but I'm sure they'll be involved. Or maybe one of you know of a site taking donations. Just post it in the comments.

It's tragic. You are a good man. You have a kind heart and a lot of spine. You are a hero to me.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
