McCain to the Rescue?

It seems as if Democrats are falling all over themselves trying to convince republican Senator John McCain to be Kerry's running mate. Every third question out of Tim Russert's mouth when he interviews him is about the possibility that he might change his mind and join the ticket alongside Kerry. Senator Biden says, "oh yeah, McCain would be a great choice." Never has so much attention been paid to a vice-presidential pick before the actual choice has been made. Heck, the Dem's convention is still two months off.

Kerry himself has said he'd like McCain on his side. And this morning on the Today Show Matt Lauer asked McCain (in a follow-up to a report of a disagreement between him and Dennis Hastert) whether "maybe you're playing for the wrong side?" Such outright bias (from Lauer) as the implication that Republicans are the "wrong side" not-withstanding, there seems to be a trend here...

Are Democrats already resigned to the fact that John Kerry is a one-dimensional liberal who simply won't appeal to many swing voters? Are they afraid that maybe they made the wrong choice? (I do, of course -- I would have liked to have seen Joe Leiberman as the nominee.)

Are they admitting that they can't win, or that winning will be difficult without a plain-speaking moderate? McCain -- of course -- says he'll never do it or switch parties either. I think it's fascinating though that if he did, the Democrats would be confessing that they think their vice-presidential choice overshadows and is the more electable part of the ticket.

I loved the "litmus test" they (Democratic Party leaders) insisted McCain meet: That he would only support judicial nominees who support Roe Vs Wade. What hypocrisy!

I'm no fan of GW Bush, as I've pointed out here quite a bit. But the fact that things are going as badly in Iraq as they are and yet Kerry still can't best Bush by more than a few points in the polls indicates just what a weak candidate the Massachusetts Senator is.

All of these Democrats trying to "woo" a republican to their national ticket doesn't speak well for the current state of the Democratic Party.

I'm still at a loss as to how Kerry ever got to be their candidate in the first place. None of the Democrats I know (and most of my family are Democrats) wanted him.

I have had it with the Democrats and Roe vs. Wade as their litmus test. What about Lawrence vs. Texas? That's my litmus test. Also Stanley vs. Georgia. And any number of others. Right to privacy. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. And, of course, the right of the people to keep and bear arms.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
