A Couple Of Defensive Gun Uses

Showing once again that the right to defend yourself with a firearm is often essential to staying alive, here are a couple stories for you.

From the Detroit Free Press:

Their eyes locked.

Then Barbara Holland saw the barrel of the gun.

She lay on the floorin her house after an intruder had knocked her down while pushing through her side door. While on her back, she drew a 9mm handgun from a holster on her waist.

Her assailant's glare suddenly changed.

"He looked surprised," Holland said.

Then she pulled the trigger.

Holland, a 38-year-old Detroit business owner and mother, remembers firing three shots. Detroit police told her she fired six.

Either way, she killed the 42-year-old man, Clabe Hunt -- who had shoved intoher home on Troester, near Hayes, on Detroit's east side at 8:10 p.m. April 13.

He was an ex-con with five children and was armed with a loaded, nickel-plated semiautomatic handgun that was not registered to him. Autopsy reports indicate he was shot in the head multiple times. He never fired his weapon.

Police officers said Holland's gun was licensed, and they determined the shooting to be self-defense. Wayne County prosecutors continue to investigate, which is routine in most fatal shootings.

I'll be talking about this story more in my "Weekly Report" on Monday, but I do note that while the Detroit Freep is usually hostile to gun owners, this story at least provided some balance and pointed out that incidents such as this are the precise reason for Michigan's concealed-carry law.

And in another story from the Twin Cities Pioneer Press:

David Haagensen drives to work with his gun on the seat next to him, and he says it came in handy one night a few weeks ago.

Haagensen, attending one of two competing events Wednesday that commemorated the passage of the state's new gun law, said he foiled an attempted carjacking as he was on his way to work the late shift at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

"I pointed it at his head, because he was trying to open my locked door, and he was pointing a gun at me,'' he said. "He ran away. I drove to work and called the cops.''

Hat-tip for both stories to Keep And Bear Arms. The Second Amendment: It works! Fight to preserve it! That's the whole point of Alphecca and many other terrific (and better) blogs. Most are listed on my sidebar so check them out.

As usual, I take weekends off but will return Monday morning. See you all soon and thanks for stopping by.

GOOD JOB BARBARA!

I think every woman should know how to shoot and have a licensed handgun on her at all times. It would mean the end of sexual assault in the US.

Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that.
