April 05, 2004Oh, You Noticed...Over the next 18 hours you might not see this. If you are, and you're a regular, here's what's going on: My new blog Tarazet runs on Movable Type. (Hereafter "MT.") A wonderful program that powers (software wise) many of the finest blogs around. I can't afford to have the MT folks install it for me but fortunately Hosting Matters provided good instructions on installing it and MT allows free non-commercial installations. That certainly describes me! I like the ease of using it to post. I don't like the lack of control of the looks of each individual post that I have over Alphecca by hand-coding. But... But it would make my life much easier behind the scenes here at Alphecca. Instead of having to hand-code everything and every post, MT would do it for me. And maintain the archives. And provide the "Commenting Function" that so many have asked me to add to Alphecca. And I could post from real "work" on something I needed to get out right away. And it is very space efficient and my host's HD storage space is something I'm running out of. My "plan" at Hosting Matters gives me 125 megs of storage. In a year-and-a-half Alphecca has already consumed 2/3s of that. So... [Yeah, get to the 'effing point -- ed] My "Weekly Check On The Bias" Report will still appear, but maybe not until sometime tomorrow. From now until then, I will be trying out various configurations of a MT version of Alphecca. I want my MT version to look and feel somewhat like the present version. I have to try the various available templates, see if I can modify the CSS style sheet that controls such stuff... Bla, bla, bla. In the end though, Alphecca will be a much more interactive place for visitors and I'm hoping that will help it grow. Thanks for your patience! Posted by Jeff Soyer at April 5, 2004 09:16 AMComments
Actually, it looks a lot like it did yesterday as Tarazet. (This is actually just a comment added so you have a comment to play with.) Posted by: htom at April 5, 2004 09:48 AMAbout time! Good, I think you'll like MT. Posted by: SayUncle at April 5, 2004 09:55 AMYeah, I'm a little slow in catching up with modern times... Posted by: Jeff Soyer at April 5, 2004 10:02 AMWelcome to the world of MT. There's a lot to like, a few things to dislike, but, by and large, quite a stable base with nice bits of automation, too. You have made my day! YAY thanks! Posted by: Cinomed at April 6, 2004 09:31 AMthe comment input form disappears. Your comments are welcome. You don't need to enter a URL and you don't need a "valid" email address, either. Note though that MT Blacklist is installed to flag suspiciously spam-like strings. Unfortunately, because of the bastard spammers, the strings "google.com" and "yahoo.com" (even in your email address) are currently banned as well. So are strings such as "cialis" (a common spam) which rules out words such as "socialism". Try putting a hyphan in a word like that. By Golly, you're reading an archived post.
