From the Democrat’s 2008 Draft Platform
You can download the entire thing here but I’ve copied some of the stuff I care about:
“We recognize that the right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans’ continued Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne. We can work together to enact and enforce common-sense laws and improvements, like closing the gun show loophole, improving our background check system and reinstating the assault weapons ban, so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals. Acting responsibly and with respect for differing views on this issue, we can both protect the constitutional right to bear arms and keep our communities and our children safe.”
There it is, folks! Right in the platform — and Obama has stated he would support it, too — is the fake, phony “assault weapons ban” that would outlaw some of the most popular sporting rifles in our country.
By the way, here are some other gems from the platform:
“Investment in the arts is an investment inn our creativity and cultural heritage, in our diversity, in our communities, and in our humanity. We support art in schools and increased public funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities. We support the cultural exchange of artists around the world, spreading democracy and renewing America’s status as a cultural and artistic center.”
So expect more “Piss Christs” but not anything showing religion in a positive light — unless, of course, it’s Islamic.
And, speaking of spending your money:
. . . “We will make an unprecedented national investment to guarantee that every child has access to high-quality Pre-K programs, and access to Head Start and Early Head Start and we will help pay for child care. We will ensure that every child has health insurance, invest in playgrounds to promote healthy and active lifestyles, and protect children from lead poisoning in their homes and toys. Improving maternal health also improves children’s health, so we will provide access to home visits by medical professionals to low-income expectant first-time mothers.” . . .
And so it goes.

And people wonder why I don’t vote democrat. I come from a traditionally Democratic family, that was pro gun. Dad could never believe that “democrats would try to take our guns away” - even when you showed him the written platform.
Sigh

They could tighten that up a bit: You will have less freedom in all facets of your life, except sex, than you have had we not won.

Why would anyone vote for any Democrat is beyond me. All they want is to tell you they will protect your library card, meanwhile they remove all your freedoms … Some deal huh.

If the Democrats would lay off the gun issue or even embrace gun rights, they could start building something close to a permanent majority. You would think they would remember Gore losing his home state in 2000 because of gun control…

“We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne.”
Works? Works to do what, exactly? Last time I looked, Chicago was the murderingest city north of Bogota, and it’s got some pretty tight laws against guns.
“…so that guns do not fall into the hands of terrorists or criminals.”
Aye, indeed. Trust the democrats to ensure that we continue to keep criminals from getting ahold of firearms. Wouldn’t want to get started going down THAT road.

“We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation, but we know that what works in Chicago may not work in Cheyenne.”
Are they (Democrats) going to offer different amendments for different parts of the country? Or do they think that the Second Amendment offers different rights to people in different parts of the country?
The Supreme Court has ruled, and with more cases in the works, I guess we will find out what is reasonable and what isn’t, but the bans in Chicago, and the new laws in DC should be getting slapped down hard. Stupid people trying to enfore stupid regulations.

Jeff,
It looks to me that they are still pushing gun control. Not to mention paying for pet programs here and across the globe.

Bless their fuzzy little multi-cultural pointed heads …
but anyone who can only spout aspirational BS, and fails to look at the concrete cause-and-effect failures that most of the Democratic programs and policies have been isn’t competent to hold office. Heck, shouldn’t be wasting our oxygen.
Not that the Republicrats have done much better. Same s**t, different piles.
Naw, I take that back. At least the R-party hasn’t tried to disarm my family and make us fodder for the multi-generational welfare/criminal class that the social engineers have created.

Like no one saw this one coming. Obama, God forbid if elected, is just another gun grabbing COMMIE. He’s been exposed.

Obviously written by and answered by right wing republicans that believe G.W. Bush is the best-est thing this nation has ever seen. For eight years we have been lied to, spyed on, and subjected to the most devious, secretive, pack of incompetent Bush cronies anyone could ever imagine. We no longer have a justice department, just a pack of Bush cronies interpreting what they believe our constitution says. The time for change has arrived and like it or not republicans will all pay the price because of the good-est president 20% of this nation still believes told us the truth for the past eight years.
By the way-when was the last time you ever seen any platform mentioned after the election was held? All it`s designed to do is placate the radicals in either party.
Get over yourself!!
