IL: Another County Passes Pro-2A Resolution
This has been spreading among a lot of counties in Illinois that are fed-up with being bullied by Mayor Daley and the Cook County gun ban zealots. From JG-TC News:
The Coles County Board on Tuesday gave its backing to a movement to oppose gun control laws.
The board voted 12-0 to adopt an advisory resolution pledging it will “oppose the enactment of any legislation that would infringe upon the rights of the people to keep and bear arms.”
There was no board discussion on the matter other than member Marc Weber’s introduction of and motion to adopt the resolution. Weber is chairman of the board’s health and safety committee, which recommended the resolution to the board.
He said the statewide effort behind the resolution, which has been adopted in more than 45 counties, came about because of proposed legislation to eliminate shotguns.
“They do have a downside, but in this case we are preserving them for hunting,” Weber said.
First it was handguns. Then, it was so called “assault rifles.” Now it’s shotguns. But all of these lying bastard politicians claim that there is no slippery slope.
The movement by many counties to issue resolutions stating that they are against further gun control measures is even being supported by some self-proclaimed liberals. From Infoshop News:
I’m at it again. Backing some anti-gun control advocates. These folks are basically concerned about proposals that would ban shotguns in their state. Now, shotguns are legitimate weapons. Hunters use them (not that I support hunting) and they are a good weapon to have in the home for self-defense. You don’t have to be a great shot to use them to defend yourself or your family and they are damn scary looking to boot.
Anyway, there is a movement in Illinois to turn back the ban idea. These folks aren’t pushing assault rifles and the like, they just don’t want gun control advocates to take away everything. They are trying to get resolutions passed in counties throughout the state (with a great deal of success) that would promise the 2nd amendment would be protected.
[…]
Now, I know some of you probably think I’ve lost my mind, but as I’ve said before I think possessing weapons for self defense in this day and age is far from stupid and shouldn’t been seen as antithetical to being a child of the left.
It shouldn’t be, but it often is.
So many on the left are screaming about the infringement of other parts of the Bill of Rights, from censorship to loss of privacy to illegal wiretaps to loss of rights for “war on terror” detainees. Yet they have no problem supporting the gutting of the Second Amendment because despite the fact that 90 million law abiding gun owners aren’t committing gun crimes, they themselves don’t like guns so screw the right to own them and to hell with the right to personal defense.

The cherry picking of the Bill of Rights has long been a favorite of the Left (and others). In addition, there is the tendency to add new ‘rights’. The Right to Healthcare comes to mind. Next it will be the Right to Housing, or the Right to …….

From the article: “Now, shotguns are legitimate weapons.”
One more guy who (despite being on our side at the moment) just doesn’t get it.
There are NO ‘illegitimate’ weapons, only illegitimate users.

I don’t understand why these people, many of whom truly believe that Bush is running slightly ahead of Hitler in the Greatest Dictator Sweepstakes, still think that only government agents should be armed. Don’t they want to be able to defend themselves against the Shrub and his evil minions?

Jeff, the number of counties is 53 as of this morning. Check out their site at: http://www.pro2aresolution.com/id12.html
There is still some hope for us here in Illinois.
