Great photos. I used to enjoy walking through (if I remember correctly) the 4th floor hall of MIT’s building 10 where they had an exhibit of Doc Edgerton’s photos and equipment. Of course the famous one of the apple with the 30-06 bullet and the bullet through the flame, but also the sequences of human motion. http://edgerton-digital-collections.org
The technical photographer at the old Erie Ordnance proving ground was an old newsreel stringer named Myron Gittinger. He used to do this with 155 and 240 artillery rounds. Film and shutters were both slower then, and he used massive plates. He did it all with the lights.
