A plan to divide California into six separate US states is closer to making it on to a November ballot, with organizers gaining approval to collect signatures.
The seemingly far-fetched initiative, sponsored by Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper, claims “political representation of California’s diverse population and economies has rendered the state nearly ungovernable.”
And on Tuesday, the California Secretary of State’s office gave the movement a boost, saying that proponents “may begin collecting petition signatures.”
I’ll just bet Democrats would love that. California is overwhelmingly liberal. Sure, there are pockets of more conservative, Republican residents, but Democrats would be the final winners. Let’s assume California becomes six states and one of them is conservative. Dems get eight new senators in Congress and assuredly retake the House. Watch for the MSM to push this move.
How to counteract it? Texas has a clause (from when they joined the union) that they can split their state into four. One of those would probably be solidly Democratic, but 3 of them might be Republican, adding 4 Republican senators to Congress and a few new Reps in the House.
This could go on and on. Upstate NY could secede from NYC — oh, wait . . . Who will fund all the welfare recipients downstate? (Actually, the same problem could confront California.)
Subdividing states could become the new gerrymandering. Between that, and giving voter rights to illegals, jail birds, non-US citizens . . . Democrats could have a field day.
