Armed thug breaks into home of a guy. Armed thug starts shooting at guy. Guy has gun and shoots back. Thug takes off. Police respond to report of gun fire. They arrest the guy:
The man inside the home was arrested by Houston police because was a felon in possession of a weapon.
Well. The law says that a felon can’t possess a firearm. That is the law. Still, I’ve read about cases where people who used firearms (that they shouldn’t have had) being, er, exonerated or given a mulligan by cops because they were protecting themselves.
I even know of cops advising the victim to state that the gun he used was the perp’s, dropped during the conflict.
In any event, we don’t know (because the story doesn’t say) what crimes the victim committed.
In past posts, though not recently, I’ve had comments along the lines of, “If a former convict can’t be trusted with a gun, he shouldn’t be out on the streets.”
Well, okay, how many thousands of acres of prisons should the federal and state governments build?
These issues require deeper thought than I’m able to provide at the moment, but feel free to offer your own.
