That’s what we’re seeing in state legislatures around the country and it was on display yesterday when Senate leader Harry Reid was interviewed on ABC’s This Week With George Stephanopoulos. From Philly.com:
While Reid pronounced his support for expanding background checks on gun purchases, he said he was undecided about proposed bans on assault-style weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. “I didn’t vote for the assault weapons last time because it . . . didn’t make sense,” Reid said. Nonetheless, Reid said he plans to “take a look” at the latest proposal. And imposing new restrictions on high-capacity magazines is “something we definitely have to take a look at,” he said.
If it didn’t make sense in 1994, when the gun crime rate was higher than it is today, why does it make sense now? It doesn’t, but this Obama/Democrat/media pile-on is hard to resist for your average politician lacking a backbone.
