A Fort Hood soldier has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter, saying he shot his friend accidentally while trying to scare away his hiccups.
[ . . . ]
Myers told police he thought the weapon had dummy rounds and was trying to scare his friend so his hiccups would stop.
He was sentenced to 3 1/2-years in a military prison.
Not to make light of an act of stupidity, but doesn’t this remind you of that old movie, Arsenic and Old Lace? The scene where Johnathan Brewster (Raymond Massey) is bragging to Dr. Einstein (Peter Lorre) about how many people he’s killed?
Brewster: “Then three in Chicago and one in South Bend. That makes thirteen.”
Einstein: “You cannot count the one in South Bend. He died of pneumonia!”
Brewster: “He wouldn’t have died of pneumonia if I hadn’t shot him!”
Sorry, I’m in a warped mood today.
