Let’s hope this is true. From the NY Post:
A Swirl of disagreements over the terms of Gov. Cuomo’s assault-rifle gun ban, his demand for more restrictions on legal gun ownership, tougher criminal penalties for illegal gun use and requirements that mental-health professionals report the names of potential mass killers has put into doubt a vote on the measure this week.
More at the link. One restriction that has gained traction from both sides is the closing of the so-called “gun show loop hole” where all private transactions would have to be processed by an FFL or police department so that an NICS background check can be run.
That’s only interesting because, like all of the other gun control proposals, none of them would have prevented any of the “mass” shootings last year.
Update 11:30 AM: and ‘bumped.’
NBC NY says that a drastic gun control law IS probably a done deal:
The tentative agreement would further restrict New York’s ban on assault weapons and limit the size of magazines to seven bullets, rather than the current 10. Other elements, pushed by Republicans, would refine a mental health law that allows for civil confinement of people determined to be a threat to others.
Aside from some hunting rifles, that would pretty much scrap any firearm (handgun or long gun) useful as a defensive — as in the natural right to self-defense of family and self — weapon.
I can’t believe that Republicans (granted; NY Republicans) would sell-out the rights of The People with such a drastic restriction on the functionality of firearms.
I suppose that that is the reason I refer to myself as a “politically independent” blogger. Because Republicans suck as much as Democrats do. What a bunch of RINOs. What a bunch of fake, phony, frauds. What a bunch of turncoats so scared of the Democrats that they would sell us constitutionalists down the river to secure their next election.
