Fraud: Man-Made Global Warming (Update 2)
Not that you’ll hear about it on NBC, MSNBC, NPR, or CNN, but I think that this is going to be huge:
First things first: The alleged hackers need to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
That said: The crimes revealed in the e-mails promise to be the global warming scandal of the century — and have massive bearing on the climate change legislation being considered by our lawmakers here at home.
Follow all the links given there for full and continuing details.
Update: I like this, too:
But perhaps the most damaging revelations – the scientific equivalent of the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal – are those concerning the way Warmist scientists may variously have manipulated or suppressed evidence in order to support their cause.
Update Disclaimer: Do I believe in “climate change?” Yes. For 4 1/2 billion years the climate of Earth has been changing. And, yes, there have been warming periods over the past century. Actually, there have been eras where the Earth has warmed over many millennium. Do I think that mankind’s actions were responsible? They certainly weren’t when Greenland was named, er, Greenland.
A lone volcano can release more CO2 into the atmosphere in a single eruption than all the smokestacks in China and the cow farts in America can contribute over the course of ten years.
Then, there’s other geological changes; our Sun’s solar cycles, and even variations in the wobble of our Earth’s axis.
So. I don’t think that the activity of mankind has much to do with any warming or cooling periods in our weather or world temperatures.
Having said all of that, I still think that it is a good idea for our kind to find less polluting ways to live our lives. Forget how much CO2 or methane we put into the air. All the other dirt we create could be much less if we (industrially) find smarter ways to create and package our consumables. Clean air and water are worthy objectives.
But, this whole “cap-and-trade” nonsense could easily bankrupt the tax payers (you and me) and businesses. The inflation from the cost of goods alone would hit all of us as an unspoken tax. It [this scheme] needs to be stopped in its tracks. We do not need rationing of energy coming from the likes of hypocrites such as Al “I’ll take my private jet” Gore and our Congress Creeps.
Update 2, 11/21: OK, now it’s getting ridiculous:
Kidney stones, malaria, Lyme disease, depression and respiratory illness all may increase with global warming, researchers at Harvard Medical School said.
[…]
“We expect an increase in hospital admissions for things like pneumonia, chronic lung disease, asthma and other respiratory diseases,” Cecil Wilson, president-elect of the American Medical Association, said yesterday in an interview. “Increased heat also increases the risk to people who have other diseases.”
On the bright side, all that extra depression might lead to Harvard researchers committing suicide.
End of Week: Anyway, that wraps up another week here at Alphecca. As I pointed out earlier, the good news in my life is that I start a new job in a few weeks which should allow me to stop begging for donations. However, that is in a few weeks. Right now I’m still struggling badly and anything you can contribute by hitting Yosemite Sam on the sidebar would be greatly appreciated. If you tend to agree with my writings here, help me continue them. Do it for the cats!
Thanks as always for stopping by and have a great weekend! Do something unexpectedly nice for your spouse, play with your kids, and hug your pets.
Keep the faith; we will take our country back. Until then, keep your powder dry!

I saw that Fox had picked the story up.

It was obvious five years ago that the IPCC and the climatologists who support the ridiculous CO2-based global warming theory were fudging their data, selectively reporting data, using a climate model with known serious flaws (overestimation of polar temperatures by six degrees centigrade), suppressing opposing viewpoints, and lying about past climate issues. The e-mails appear to confirm all those behaviors.
My guess is that the mainstream media will avoid reporting this until the story gets too big. Then, the media will emphasize the illegality of the cracking instead of the unethicality and illegality of the pseudo-climatologists’ actions. The pseudo-climatologists and their abetters probably will claim that the e-mails are forgeries; that different content was placed into the stolen e-mails.

It might have been marketed as fiction but, the late Michael Crichton’s State of Fear was based upon fact and was a brilliant rebuttal to all of this. IF you haven’t read it, please do so.

I personally enjoy Chricton’s speech about how environMENTALism is a religion.
As for gorebal warming…didn’t look at the links yet, but Gore has already figured out what the problem is…and it’s STILL is the fault of Americans…see, according to him the core of the planet is millions of degrees http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ns_4pzfOSTc and this is due to all those fat americans exerting pressure on it.
The good news is we now have technology to drill into that kind of heat, so we’ll have underwear able to withstand those temperatures when the earth turns into a new star.
In other words, as the Thompson twins said:
ies lies lies yeah (they’re gonna get you)
lies lies lies yeah (they won’t forget you)
lies lies lies yeah (they’re gonna get you)
lies lies lies yeah
OK, looked at the links… I’m SHOCKED! SHOCKED I TELL YOU!

I read State of Fear when it came out.
I recognized the parallels with current science.
It was pretty good, I enjoyed it.
As usual, Crichton poses it as a warning.
Good for you, Jeff, on your new job. I wish you well.

I think if you do some research about volcanic additions to the amount of so-called greenhouse gasses you’ll find that each individual eruption as large as St. Helens, Redoubt, or Pinatubo adds MORE gasses than all of humankind has done since our nekkid foredaddies figgered out how to make fire. So it won’t make any difference at all, not a bit if we went back to 1700 industrial pollution output and watched two thirds of the world’s population starve to death. Which is what the GloBall Warmists want, near as I can figure. These slime are not just wrong, they are evil.
on 21 Nov 2009 at 9:34 am # Rich
Nordic Thug - you are most likely right. The Globalwarmists and company have for years said that the planet is too crowded and population growth needs to be stopped. Well most of the western world is helping in that area in population levels that are below replacement but those nasty 3rd worlders they just keep rolling along. so how to solve the problem - hey go back to the 1700s when many people died young and do that under the guise of counter-acting global warmind uh, climate change.

Legitimate paleoclimatological studies show the average CO2 level at about a tenth of what the level was in the time of the dinosaurs. The level being broadcast from the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii is about as fraudulent as many of the doctored surface temperature levels taken on asphalt parking lots and airports. For the unitiated, the Mauna Loa Observatory is sited on a volcano, an active CO2 emitter.

I agree that pollution can and should be cut, including CO2. But AGW, or human influence on Global (as opposed to smaller areas - smaller as in several States in the US) temperature/climate, has been vastly overstated (since the early 19th Century global temp has risen about 1/10 degree per decade when averaged out, yet that same average circa 1971-1997 is attributed solely to humans?) perhaps because the IPCC, founded to look at human influence, quickly adopted the mind-set that only human influence should be considered and no other things could possibly have an influence since they, the IPCC, were not investigating them. Circular logic?
So far the funniest thing I have read from the memos is [paraphrased] “The data does not match our model, so the data nust be wrong.” Perhaps the data was indeed wrong, albeit I am suspicious of the direction of inaccuracy…
And then there are the contradictions of actions taken by governments. Even as more communities are banning the formerly-green woodstoves, the UK is preparing to import hundreds of thousands of tons of wood to be burnt in power plants!
Volcanoes? Yes… but I stumbled across a paper from the early 1980s which indicated that termites (!!!) were (at that time) releasing about as much CO2 annually as humans.

Prosecuting the hackers could open a whole can of worms;
It can be argued very convincingly that their actions have served the public interest in uncovering what looks at best like scientific malpractice, and at worst, fraud (along with character assassination and propaganda techniques that even maoists and stalinists would be embarrased about being caught using).
Unfortunately, evidence obtained by criminal means cannot be used in a crimminal court to prosecute the UAE clowns.

Here’s a nifty little article with clip showing to what extent Al Gore focuses on hype rather than science:
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/11/18/al-gore-earths-interior-extremely-hot-several-million-degrees
I believe I agree with your position - that man-made global warming is a farce, a red herring, and my option is that they pursue it to disguise the movement’s true purpose of establishing a totalitarian government with absolute control over the economic activity of every human on earth. Plus, there’s the opportunists like Al Gore who may just be using it as an excuse to make millions off the gullible.
And then there’s the real issue of pollution, which is a completely separate issue, with very real consequences, but which still is being overblown and twisted by the environmental movement into a “control all humans” movement.

If heat is so bad for the health of humans, why do so many people move to Arizona for their health?

The largest component of apparent climate change during our lives has been the reduction of air pollution. The changeover from coal, especially soft coal, and bunker-grade oil to natural gas as an industrial fuel removed virtually all large particulates from urban air. These particles were bad for our health, but also blocked sunlight.
Skin cancer rates were a major item of journalistic concern in the late 70’s. The rate of incidence was blamed on destruction of the ozone layer by spray-can propellants (later reconsidered, but only after the CFC industry had been destroyed), but was in fact due to exposure to sunlight by the change in cloud cover. Clouds were formed, for some hundreds of years, by the particles in coal smoke. There is much less cloud cover now.
And even coal was an improvement over what was used before, raw wood and charcoal. The industrial revolution did not start up on coal.
Fuel is only important if you don’t have slaves.

Keith sorry for missing your calls sometimes picked up but no voice, hope life is better for you and getting lots of totty. anyhow the whole AGW sacam comes as no surprise as it clearly bad science anyhow and flakey computer modeling.
Ask any geologist and he can tell you how bad it is.

Jeff,
Your views on GW or GC or whatever are the same as mine.
Guys,
They may not be able to be prosecuted on this evidence as it was obtained illegally but it can be followed by an official request for the data which could lead to prosecutions just like what happened with MPs expenses. However, I actually wonder what is illegal about what they have done. Immoral and unethical and I think they should lose their jobs and standing but illegal? I can’t see it.
However, like the MPs expenses I’m sure it will lead to a lot of shredding and requests for data.
The funny thing is that no one will believe the data they supply and they are destroying hundreds of years worth of raw data for their religion. It can never be replaced.
As an aside I have a neighbour who is a believer. I love talking to him, his kids and our neighbours about it. I’m expecting my door kicked down by the Stasi any day now. (I live in the UK)
Jeff, Good luck with the new job.

Some good simple explanations of how climate graphs were fudged and how the data manipulation was uncovered here:
http://bishophill.squarespace.com/
Looks like CRU used all available means (short of physical violence, though I can’t confirm or discount eeven that) to avoid releasing their source data sets for others to look at, then when they had to release it it wqas in long obsolete formats and as obsurely labelled as possible.
SWMBO has spent more time than she cares to remember in academia, and says that shenanigans like those in the CRU emails are unfortunately all too common in research departments.

First let me correct something here. The evidence can be used, even if illegally obtained as long as the state or its agencies were not the ones who illegally obtained it. Evidence found among the goods of a lawbreaker that indicate other crimes can be used to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of those crimes as well. Just as long as the evidence against the initial lawbreakers was legally obtained. It makes no difference how the arrestees obtained it.
Now that that is out of the way, I will quote from the aricle Jeff referenced. “That said: The crimes revealed in the e-mails promise to be the global warming scandal of the century — and have massive bearing on the climate change legislation being considered by our lawmakers here at home.”
You mean like they have paid attention to all those people who have come out against government health care?

Jeff,
It is cow BELCHES which contain the methane, not cow farts!
