NY -23 Vote: The Fat Lady Hasn’t Yet Sung . . .
What was it, last Tuesday, after Republicans won in Virginia and New Jersey yet Pelosi claimed it was a Democrat victory because they beat a conservative in NY’s 23′rd District? “We won,” I think were her exact words.
Well, that vote has not yet been certified and the margin is narrowing:
In Oswego County, where Hoffman was reported to lead by only 500 votes with 93 percent of the vote counted election night, inspectors found Hoffman actually won by 1,748 votes — 12,748 to 11,000.
The new vote totals mean the race will be decided by absentee ballots, of which about 10,200 were distributed, said John Conklin, communications director for the state Board of Elections. …
Conklin said the state sent a letter to the House Clerk last week explaining that no winner had been determined in the 23rd district, and therefore the state had not certified the election. But the letter noted that Owens still led by about 3,000 votes, and that the special election was not contested — two factors that legally allowed Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to swear in Owens on Friday.
“We sent a letter to the clerk laying out the totals,” Conklin said. “The key is that Hoffman conceded, which means the race is not contested. However, all ballots will be counted, and if the result changes, Owens will have to be removed.”
While it is likely that Owens will prevail, it is not a certainty, and that would (combined with Republican victories on Long Island) be a huge slap in the face of Pelosi. Heck, it might figure her face.

Didn’t Owens concede? If so, that ends the race according to the laws I’m familiar with.

“… it might figure her face …”
HAH! Love it. Good job, Jeff.
(psst, PawPaw, it was Hoffman that conceded.)

Should the absentee ballots break 65/35 in Hoffmans favor, giving him the win, an old Buick will be found with a box in the trunk containing enough “lost” ballots to protect Owens’ seat.
Pay no attention to the Illinois plates on the Buick.

Gee a buick - in Queens it was always a caddy. I guess Queens is a little higher class that Chicago

The most surprising piece from the referenced Syracuse Post-Standard article “inspectors found a problem in four districts where Hoffman’s vote total was mistakenly entered as zero.” It is hard to presume incompetence over political connivance.
I would love to assume incompetence. Is the government of New York incapable of counting ballots with any sort of competence?
