Turncoat Republicans Introduce an AWB
I thought it would be the Democrats waiting at the gate to ban some of the most popular sporting arms but instead the new “assault weapons ban” comes from five douche-bag Republicans.
They are Rep. Mark Kirk [R-IL], Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen [R-FL], Rep. Michael Ferguson [R-NJ], Rep. Christopher Shays [R-CT], and Rep. Michael Castle [R-DE].
With all the problems this country is facing economically, politically, war/terrorism wise, these Republican douche-bags couldn’t even wait and allow the Democrats to shoulder the blame for reinstating the gun ban. Instead, they had to further tarnish the Party that two weeks ago got it’s ass kicked like a narc at a biker rally. They had to assure one and all that the Republicans no longer wanted the support of the powerful pro-gun voting block.
Folks, the Republican Party is dead. Emboldened liberals are in full control and aren’t even waiting until January 20th.
How do you like it so far?
Update: On further investigation of H.R.6257 it appears that it was actually introduced last June and was referred to committee in July, well before the election.
Still, I can see the new Congress embracing this and saying, “See, see! This is Republican sponsored legislation. All America wants an AWB.”
No wonder we lost the election, what with creeps like this in the Republican Party.

Gun control is becoming a less partisan issue. There are quite a few very pro-gun Democrats out there, and clearly there are some anti-gun Republicans. This is bad for the Republican party, since clearly it used to be their winning issue.
The most unfortunate thing is when Republicans do crap like this, they lose any pro-gun votes. This only helps equally anti-gun Democrats.

Just wait until China, India and the Arabs start spending all those giga bucks you guys have let them earn from you…
A few politicians should be cheap enough for them to buy, then these IDIOTS will look like respectable conservatives in comparison…
Wake up guys, the funfair ride is starting.

Kirk isn’t a turncoat. He’s always plainly shown his true colors.

Well, it is nice to see that at least one of the A**hats, did not get reelected–Shays of CT. I love these Orwellian titles for bills, How does this bill “protect” recreational firearms use?

Write your congressman. Former gun-grabbing California AG Dan Lungren is running for House Minority Leader.

Do any of these retards actually know what buttons they are pushing out here, in the real world.
Do they not understand that their ideologies are not important, and that proposing ‘feel good’ legislation isn’t anything more than cheap talk.
Funny, as I was just over at Tam’s place, cruising through VFTP and was reading about “Today in History,” that being the Jonestown cult suicide in Guyana. It mentioned a murder or two or five, and one of them happened to be a….

Have to note that there are NO elected republicans in NJ - only RINOs. Don’t know why they even bother to call themselves republicans because there is not one iota of difference between them.
Anytime a real republican tries to run for something the regular republican party does not endorse them and appears to actually fight against them

Rep. Castle of my home state of DE is a Co-Sponsor on this. He’s an idiot though and supports an AWB even though he doesn’t understand what it bans and refuses to listen to the facts.

This goes beyond just being a RHINO,which all of these folks are. This is just flat out betrayal of them to us and the party ideals.

You’re retarded if you think that anti-gun Republicans had anything to do with losing the election.

I keep hearing about the impending flood of “me too” republicans that will appear now that the dems are in control, but I never thought they’d flip on the AWB.

These guys need to just go home. And we need to do everything we can to make that happen.
as to the text of the legislation, on what they define as large capacity
‘(w)(1) Except as provided in paragraph (2), it shall be unlawful for a person to transfer or possess a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
‘(2) Paragraph (1) shall not apply to the possession or transfer of any large capacity ammunition feeding device otherwise lawfully possessed on or before the date of the enactment of this subsection.
it defines large capacity magazines as :
‘(A) means a magazine, belt, drum, feed strip, or similar device manufactured after the date of enactment of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 that has a capacity of, or that can be readily restored or converted to accept, more than 10 rounds of ammunition; but
‘(B) does not include an attached tubular device designed to accept, and capable of operating only with, .22 caliber rimfire ammunition.’.
Who the hell writes this stuff? Why the hell would you define large capacity ammo feeding device as something made after 1994 then state it’s ok to have them if they are posessed before the enactment of the law?
I’m so sick of this damn doublespeek.

“There are quite a few very pro-gun Democrats out there”
I know that some of the new Democrat congresscritters from “Red” states purported to be pro-RKBA. We will see how they vote when they are pressured by their party leadership. If they stand up to their party leadership, then I will say they’re really pro-gun Democrats.
“You’re retarded if you think that anti-gun Republicans had anything to do with losing the election.”
I don’t think it was a major factor. However, I do think the Republicans lose a lot of gun owner votes whenever a RINO signs on to something like this. I know lots of gun owners who either justify their vote for a Democrat, or avoid voting altogether, because they point to crap like this and say “Look, the Republicans are just as bad as the Democrats.” If the R’s were more consistent in their support for RKBA, they could more solidly count on gun owner support at the polls.

If they were anything like California-local politicians the bill would call for $10Billion in Bonds, and be written in such a way and with so many loophole clauses and ambiguous statements that the money acquired would never actually be spent on any anti-gun anything, but would be used to plant lawns and build fountains for some Developer…
And you can’t tell a CA Republican from a CA Democrat - we’re not sure what kind of space-alien ate through the Governor’s brain-stem.

Thomas: It is not in the interests of the Legislature for the laws to be comprehensible.

I am not in favor of this bill or any other form of gun control. What I am about to say is only discussion, not advocation.
However, compare this bill to a hypothetical Democrat ban that:
1-makes no exceptions for any semi-auto firearm
2-does not allow exceptions for replicas of excepted arms
3-is permanent, rather than sunsetting in 10 years (two years after the last possible year for Obama to keep office.)
I would like to think that this bill was introduced as a ploy to put a very weakened version of what some in Washington are chomping at the bit to pass, in order to wait out this administration. It is probably just wishful thinking.
I hope never to see another ban — I was too young to have any when Clinton’s passed, so I missed out on a lot of neat guns. If Congress decides that they have to pass another, I hope that it is one gutted of any substance and that serves only to make it look like they have accomplished something, rather than one that actually infringes on my rights. The RINO effort does not meet that requirement, and neither will a Democrat one.
My apologies if this doesn’t quite make sense - being sick is really messing with my language ability today.

I would think that a law mandating owners of said devices “turn ‘em in” would be a tripwire for a lot of people…

Charles,
You may be right. The bill also (unlike anything the Democrat Congress would likely pass) also places the burden of proving your gun or magazine is post-ban (rather than requiring you to prove it’s pre-ban).
NOT a good (or Constitutional) law, but likely much better than what we could end up with.
Just a thought…

I also think Charles is right. My rep has not been known as particularly anti-gun, yet she is a co-sponsor. If you compare this bill to others (McKinnon?) floated by dems in Congress (eg banning all semi-automatic rifles down to M1 carbines and Ruger 10-22’s…good grief) this may be the best we can expect…a holding action until the House flips back to the right (which my guess will be in about two years).

It is 8:25 am now. At 10:00 the local gun shop opens. I will be there to purchase a CIA WASR AK-47 with 30 round magazine. I will also soon purchase as many blocks of 1000 round ammo as I can afford. I am not a gun nut. I am just a normal person, and not a criminal. I would never commint a violent act with a gun without good reason. Democrat or Republican matters not. Keep your hands off our 2nd amendment and our guns. Passing some new AWB is only going to restrict the constitutional rights of American gun owners. I consider myself a smart person, but I can not figure out why so many politicians believe it is a good idea to trample on the 2nd amendment of the United States Constitution and why anyone whould let them get away with it.
