Congratulations are due to most of the Main Stream Media for electing an unqualified, ultra-left-wing socialist to the White House.
Congratulations are also due to President George W. Bush for being one of the most incompetent, overspending, uncommunicative, clueless politicians. He has single-handedly reduced the Republican Party to “also ran” status by pissing-off almost everybody. Granted, a lot of Republican senators and congressmen aided and abetted him.
We’d be remiss in not offering kudos to McCain for the selection of Gov. Palin whom, while I’m sure she has some sort of future ahead of her, was not reassuring as a choice to be one-tragedy-away from the Oval Office.
And lastly, our thanks to all the corrupt, greedy, and incompetent of Wall Street and the banking industry for galvanizing the electorate mere months before the election and reminding all of us that “it’s the economy, stupid!”
Now we can all look forward to the three horsemen of the apocalypse — Obama, Pelosi, & Reid — trashing what little remains of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, of the American way, of capitalism, of free will, of the American Dream.
If your radio goes silent, it’s all in the name of fairness. If the phone rings, it’s just the social engineers reminding you that government control is good for the state and, it’s not about you. If your doorbell rings, it’s just the Nanny-State come to baby-sit you and change your diaper.
America is now a third world country.
Keep your powder dry.

One last thing to blame George W. Bush for, and he deserves it!

Ron Paul 2012, I suppose. If it isn’t too late already.

THESE are the times that try men’s souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives every thing its value.
–Thomas Paine, Crisis In America I.
[N]ever give in, never give in, never, never, never, never-in nothing, great or small, large or petty - never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
–Sir Winston Churchill, October 29, 1941, Harrow School.

I see it as going one of three ways for the next two years:
Best case: Obama is Clinton. Lots of parallels to suggest it and if true another Billy Bob will probably not do too much damage.
More likely: Jim-meh. Obama == Carter rings true on so many levels. Still, we can probably survive two years of it.
Worst case: Hugo. Another empty suit elected on the promise of ‘change’ and boy has he brought it. This is the very messy possibility.
In any case, with Reid and Pelosi at the helm and no Bush to blame, 2010 should be another Congressional bloodbath.

The media is now in full fawning mode. We can look for that to continue for a good long while.
I wonder what that indoctrination level is in America’s K-12 classrooms this morning?
Here in Vermont the level of viciousness and venom displayed on auto bumper stickers for the last 8 years has been pretty intolerable. Will all of that openly displayed hatred now go away? I seriously doubt it. That level of bile was pretty widwspread so where and who will it be dorected at now?

Without Palin, McCain would have had his ass kicked worse than it was. The next two years will be worse than jimmah carter. Do you remember gas lines-inflation-interest rates as high as 22%-the number of small business that went out of business-Americans held hostage by Iran? The obama is a lot more dangerous than jimmah.
Maybe it is time to form a new party starting now today. The republicans are dead.

Well said, sir!
“Maybe it is time to form a new party starting now today. The republicans are dead.”
Take off the “maybe”. There is little difference between the current GOP and the Socialist party.

Be careful with new parties, anything new needs to cream off the moderates from both parties and leave the extremist nut jobs as un-electable rumps.
If you just take from one party, you’ll ensure that both you and they stay out of power. (example of the British “Social democrats” who split off from the Labour party, leaving all the trots behind: neither got anywhere electorally)
Berlusconi created a new and electable party of the centre right when the Italian Christian Democrats fell to pieces over corruption scandals.
It can be done, just be careful that it is broadly based and can appeal to the main-stream, don’t get caught up in some stupid “return to core principals”, those guys will vote anyway, you need to attract the other sides moderates too.

You left out the best. The freaking icing on the cake. VP Cheney’s endorsement of McCain the day before the election ! Cheney is as toxic as some Russian custom concoction brewed by the KGB for the department of wet affairs. His timing couldn’t have been better if BHO himself had made the announcement.
I wish all these Republican dolts a long retirement.

I agree that the Republican Party is broke. It has been, for some time. Those Republicans currently in elected office have, over the last eight years, maybe more, ignored the reasons they were elected — small government, small, er, little regulation, in other words, stay the ‘ef out of the way and out of our lives.
Further, they only tried to appeal to a very limited, conservative religious base and never expanded their tent — never gave any reasons for other constituencies to enter, be it blacks, women, latinos, even gays, to begin to appreciate the merits of minimal government. And why would any of those groups when Republicans were so busy trying to restrict or regulate personal lives. Of course, Republicans never even tried. Bush was notorious for hiding in the White House, rarely facing the press or enumerating reasons for what he was doing. Probably, he wasn’t capable of doing that. I mean, we’re talking about a guy who couldn’t proof-read an M&M if he had a dictionary beside him.
Anyway, starting a new party sounds nice but all of the third party organizations out there are even more restrictive than the Republicans. The Libertarian Party? They always nominate someone who borders on the anti-social, criminal background fringe and who also cannot articulate properly any principles.
In a way, it’s too bad that Fred Thompson was so lazy. If he’d had the drive and energy of Obama or McCain, he could have been a formidable candidate.
But let me ask all of you: What should be the guiding philosophy of a party that could actually (not in pie-in-the-sky fantasy) garner a majority of the vote in this country?
Tougher than it sounds, eh?
Update: I’ve edited out some irrelevant stuff in this comment and, listening to Mark Levin tonight playing tapes of some of our past:
What we really need is a new Republican leader such as we haven’t had in a long time. Someone smart, articulate, statesmanlike. Principled. Another Ronald Reagan. Another (but more successful) Barry Goldwater. Someone who can make the conservative case to the American people.

Truth.
You know that Ross Perot spoke the truth about our financial mess in 92. He set the election on fire. At one time led in the polls. Got almost 19% of the vote. If it weren’t for his quirky personality he might have done it. So a no nonsense straight shooting philosphy that promises open and frank discussion. Newt Gingrich’s American Solutions comes the closest to this today. I wouldn’t be surprised if he bolted the Republicans and did a third party thing.

Jeff, you know I’m a regular reader and a big fan, but:
“And lastly, our thanks to all the corrupt, greedy, and incompetent of Wall Street and the banking industry”
You’re missing the root cause. Please read Thomas Sowell “Do Facts Matter?” The left brought this crisis upon us, and the MSM was complicit in blaming the Republicans where both Bush and McCain SAW THIS COMING AND TRIED TO PREVENT IT, but were blocked by the Dems. Given that the economy was the central concern this election cycle; This election was stolen with fraudulent reporting, if not with fraudulent ballots.

I’d be more than happy to see Palin run as the presidential candidate in 2012. It would be great to have someone who has a relatively normal home life, and isn’t the product of a political machine.
I’m hoping this results in clearing a lot of the RINOs out of the party, and a return to fiscal conservatism with a healthy dose of both competitive capitalism and nationalism. This one world brotherhood movement ignores reality, and only serves to drag the US down to a level far below our capability.
Sometimes people have to get burned to learn. It’s going to be interesting watching the truly committed trying to keep average America’s hand stuck in the flame.

“Sometimes people have to get burned to learn. ”
WHEN AND WHERE has it happened with repubs? They do their time as spoiler, or enabler, in the congress and when they come back into power they pull the same crap as the meander towards the left. Time after time.
The ONLY thing they’ve learned is that people are stupid and will eat up their promises.
The one group of people you forgot to thank are the sheeple who do what they’re told, who overlook truth to believe in Changeā¢. They just hadn’t listened closely enough, it was “CHAINS you can believe in!”

Personally I’d like to see Gov. Palin do a Ronald Reagan; go out on the stump and talk to the troops evry couple os months for the next few years. (without the tired old democrat and his RINO enablers)
on 06 Nov 2008 at 6:17 am # Keith
The sabre rattling has begun:
Russia is warning Poland over the US early warning bases
Russia has blamed the US for the Russian invasion of Georgia
Israel is warning that willingness to talk can be seen as weakness in the middle east.
There is more to come, lots more!
Policies for new party:
Defence: if the west goes to war, it will fight for unconditional surrender, then re-build the country as an ally and valued friend (marshall plan) even if that takes 50 years, as it did in Germany.
If any ally of the US or NATO is attacked with nuclear, biological or chemical weapons, the attacker will be bombed into the stone age and those leaving its borders will be detained for life: it is up to the country’s population to remove a leadership who would risk bringing that response onto them.
Civil rights:
Back to the constitution, regardless of race colour creed gender or orientation.
need to recognize gay rights too
must be no tax disadvantage or other disadvantage for getting and staying married.
Extend “shall issue” and “castle doctrine” nationwide.
Small, small, small govt.
Reform all agencies of coersion, one state at a time. all staff records to be vetted; there can be no “only ones” only citizens employed full time to attend to what is the duty of all citizens.
Agencies need to be small and to compete against each other. Peels principals should be the guide.
It is too easy to get bogged down in detail with the thousands of Fed and semi state sector agencies, therefore 50% budget cuts accross all depts (full redundancy terms to be honoured) then start looking for bullshit depts & jobs to cut.
Education; US education is among the worst in the world! there is a lot to learn. There certainly needs to be easy access to evening and weekend courses for adults who want to improve their skills in a new area. this must not be at the expense of discouraging entrepreneurship.
Banking and finance
Two leagues: one at international standard, a second division at ACORN standard. Customers free to choose where to put their money, but if a bank fails, let it fail!
any other ideas?

Here’s what I think is funny. After “The One” was elected there was dancing in the streets on Chicago. Ok, no suprise there. Home town boy becomes president-elect, so the euphoria was expected. Same with the euphoria in New York City (the Blue Sinkhole of the Northeast). But what I thought was the dancing in the streets in places like China, Kenya, etc. Are these socilast countries happy because they think we’re on our way to Socialism? Did they hate Bush II that much? How was the recepition to Obamasiah in London, Ottawa, Canberra, Moscow, & Stockholm?
on 06 Nov 2008 at 8:10 pm # Jeff Soyer
Well, Jim, Hamas and Hezbollah are certainly excited since they (illegally) donated to Obama’s campaign. And why wouldn’t they be dancing in the streets? Obama sat through 20-years of the allegedly “Reverend” Wright’s anti-semitic, anti-American sermons and only quit Wright’s church when a YouTube of one of those sermons appeared.
Anyway, I plan to give Obama the same “Honeymoon” and respect and chance that the “left” gave Bush following the 2000 election.
on 06 Nov 2008 at 8:57 pm # Jim
How long was that “honeymoon”? About 30 seconds?

Here’s the link to Anatomy of a Train Wreck in which Stan Liebowitz explains how the present disaster was caused by affirmative action mortgages promoted by Democrats.
Here’s a link to Planting Seeds of Disaster in which Stanley Kurtz neatly ties together ACORN, Obama, the Clinton administration, and the financial mess. In reaction to a stock market crash, America just elected one of the guys most responsible for causing it.

You predict that Obama would shred…the Constitution. How? Would he erode habeas corpus? Set up illegal wiretaps? End the concept of presumption of innocence? Right to legal counsel? Speedy and public trial? Attack the separation of church and state?
Oops! I forgot. George Bush already did that.

Did Obama say he was going to correct any of that? No, I didn’t think so. Hope and Change my ass, more of the same but worse.

I think that history (like more than 50 years from now) is going to be much kinder on GWB than your are, Jeff.
He came into office with the vast majority of the “creative” class convinced (to a large degree by their own predjudices) that he had “stolen” the election, and he never developed the kind of media presence that would allow him to counteract the kind of pervasive negative publicity that accompanied him throughout his term in office.
That “poisoning of the well” makes any judgement, including yours and mine, suspect. “Everybody knows” applies to more than rumors; when everything you read tells you that GWB is a venal idiot, it’s hard to resist the urge to join the crowd and curse his name.
INMNSHO, the man’s major defect is his apparent inability to appreciate the fact that people he personally knew were acting from any but the most noble of intentions. This explains why he was both able to effectively counter our foreign enemies (people he never met), while rolling over for his domestic oppostion (who he had over for lunch).
Was he a great President? No, but neither was he the figure of ridicule that we see portrayed daily. I would expect you to see this.
